Bill Validator for WMS dotmation machines
« on: October 23, 2014, 07:16:39 PM »
I'm looking into adding a bill validator to a WMS Stampede dotmation machine. It had an older Canadian bill validator in it, a DBV-130 I think. Anyway, from reading various messages here on NLG and talking to others I've figured out part of what I need, I think. It looks like a DBV-200 SH model, with software 2.50 05 or later would work. What I am not sure about is the communication protocol, I think it is called something like ID-003 or ID-045 or whatever. Is this protocol builtin to the same software chip that updates the bill validator to recognize newer bills such as the big head $5 bill? And can anyone recommend some places to get a DBV-200 and the correct software chip for use with Williams dotmation machines? I've seen the DBV-145 used in these machines too, so I guess it would work but don't know if it could be updated to the newer bills as much as the DBV-200.

Thanks for all help!

I don't think the DBV-200 was upgraded past the new $10's.

If you are willing to spend more money, I def. would get a newer validator than the dbv series at all.... Not sure what to recommend, (someone would know on here though), but the 145 and even 200 are dated to the 90s...  And there is much better out there.... I bought the new 5.00 chip for the WMS machines I have that do go in the 200 series.  I think the most updated version is 2.60 (I have 2.50 05 DBV 200 series in my WMS DOT MATS)... I have yet to try my new 5.00 chip though....  I hope I didnt buy a chip that isnt compatable.... (Im pretty sure I asked and made sure before buying that 5.00 big head chip).  rickhunter saying no they don't will now have me on the hunt to find out and make sure... WIll let you know what I find out if no one else posts between now and then....

according to JCM's site the last version for for IDO044/45P is 2.70-05 which is nextgen 5.  It is NOT the WP version that is widely used for wms machines, but it may work as I believe it only has to do with coupon acceptance.

Thanks for your comment Rick, I take it that the correct protocol for the WMS dotmation machines (or at least one of the protocols that will work) is ID 044/045P. I would guess that over the years there were other protocols used at one time or another but as JCM did improvements and added features they released newer protocols. That's part of what was confusing to me, someplace I'd see a reference to protocol ID 003 for Williams, and somewhere else it would say to use protocol ID 044. Do you know if there is a WBA model that is a drop-in replacement of the DBV validator for these machines? Or does installing a WBA require all new transport, stacker and cabling?

I am considering a bill validator newer than the DBV series but it would depend on cost. For home use it isn't a problem for me to use the older model, we just use it as a convenience to put credits on the machine. Let me know how the new $5 chip works for your setup. Do you have working bill validators like the DBV-145 or DBV-200 for sale?

I have both the 145 and 200 series in various machines I have sold and probably still own... (Sad I dont know exactly, but havent looked at the ones I had lined up in my garage at random on positioning as they came off truck... So many of the machines I have to move 10 to get to the other 10 and so I dont know what I have.... I HAVE TWO EXTRA SCRAP SIGMAS that were thrown in as parts machines... Let me go look at what they have in em....  I think they are 145s, but not sure...  Give me 15 min and Ill check that now...

ok, but not sure the bill validator from a Sigma would work in a Williams dotmation?? Maybe if the hardware part of it was the same (like a DBV-145 or 200 SH) it would just need the eprom and cabling changed? As I understand it, the eprom contains the communication protocol used by the bill validator to talk to the machine it is installed into. But on many of the DBV heads you can replace the eprom to update it, or convert it for use with a different protocol & machine hopefully. And sometimes the bill validator frontpiece needs to be changed to fit the door opening of the new machine. Thanks for going to that trouble to see what you have.

Well maybe with the WMS 5.00 chip I bought, I could convert all of it over... Does the 5.00 CHIP also (I ASSUME) contain all the prior bills also, right??????

That's my understanding, that each new software version includes all the previous updates also.
