Help to identify
« on: November 16, 2014, 10:20:54 PM »
Hello,
I just aquired this machine from a buddy of mine and I am unsure of the model. My guess is a Player Edge but not sure.
As shown, it's a bartop and the locking mechanism is missing. I'll be needing a locking mechanism if someone knows exactly what I'll need.
Thanks, Jim

Without looking at the mpu board I cannot be 100% certain, but my money is in Players Edge (non Plus)

Most likely a PE, but there is a chance it could be a late Fortune 2. Something about is just not screaming PE to me...might just be due to being a bartop.

We had an 6-8" bar section, complete with brass foot rail, with 2 games dropped in (offset, but facing each other). It was great! We played those machines more than any others. I think just because it was comfortable and very "casino-like".

Yes, I love the bartops. I also have a game maker bartop in the same kind of oak cabinet that I love to sit and play. Very comfortable and yes... casino-like.
Anyone know what the locking mechanism might look like so I can replace it?
Thanks, Jim

Here's a picture of the inside where the locking mechanism should be. Not sure what exactly is missing.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Jim

You can simply turn the Jackpot Reset key until you get the screen that shows:

GAME PROGRAM        PPxxxx

PE (non plus) with show:
GAME PROGRAM        PKxxxx (or PPxxxx)

PE Plus (non superboards) will show:
GAME PROGRAM        PPxxxx

PE Plus (superboards) will show:
DATA PROM ID     X00xxxxP
GAME PROM ID     XP000xxx

What does your machine show?  Based on the Bonus Poker and the 5/8 payout it should be PP0158 (or possibly PP0092) or if you actually have a superboard in there is should be X000158P for the DATA PROM ID.

This screen would also tell you the CG (Character Graphics roms) under the line "CHARACTER PROGRAM" and would be CGxxxx.

You've peaked my interest with this "Super Board" thing. What's so "Super" about it vs the standard type of board?
I'm very interested to know. As it turns out, I guess I have a "Super Board".
Thanks, Jim

That is a Player's Edge Plus (PE+), not just a PE.

The superboard basically allows you to play all of the "newer" PE+ games that require both a GAME and a DATA chip, along with the older games that only use one chip.  I believe all of the Multi-Poker sets require both chips and will only work on a superboard.  Other games, depending on the number of graphics involved, also require the use of a superboard.  Basically think of the superboard as version 2 of the PE+ MPU board, but it's backwards compatible with the version 1 boards.  As such, there's no reason to have anything other than a superboard for your machine.

Here's a picture of the inside where the locking mechanism should be. Not sure what exactly is missing.

Here's what's inside my PE+ bartop machine -- click the pictures to enlarge them:

I removed the metal cover/shield, and here's what's behind it (this is the "locked" position):

When you turn the key from the outside of the machine, the cam rotates about 40 degrees and dis-engages the latch as seen here (this is the "unlocked" position that is used to open the lid).
