Can Not Enter Diagnostics - John Wayne BB

Did a Clear and nothing happens when I press the Diagnostics button.  Swapped buttons, manually made the wire connections, nothing.

Turning the key of course gets me into the mini menu but thasts no help.

New to BB.  Help would be appreciated.

Are you waiting until you get "Denomination Not Set"?

You need to let it completely boot before trying to push the button.

Well I let it run an hour on the configuration screen before pushing the diagnostics button and it did display the denomination not set along with all the other messages, still won't let me in.

Any thoughts?

What version of clear are you using?

Did you get a complete clear?

My card does not have the version on it but I will try to find out.

I used the same clear card successfully in a Zeus II.

I did get the green screen you have pictured.

Did try to clear it again and start over?

Cleared it several times.  Got the green screen.

Looks like I will have to trace the switch wires back to the board.

Don't know what else to try.

Did some "Wiggling" on the brain box and bingo, I was able to enter the Diagnostics.  Also wiggled the coin cell batteries which probably need to be replaced.


All set up and playing.  A few bugs here and there but I'll keep at it.


I hear Blue Birds are "easy" to work with.  Hopefully things will go smoother in the future.

I agree.  Frustrating researching a topic, reading the entire post, and no solution was posted.  Rare, but I have experienced it.

Great to see you found your answer, i would have chimed in but haven't been on in the past few days.  Thats a great game, one of my favorites.
I prefer WMS machines and have several of them.  I find them easy to work with, though parts can be expensive at times but the games are top notch.

Just an FYI...


When putting in the MPU make sure it's fully connected to the backplane board. Make sure it's pushed down all the way onto the backplane connectors. I swapped back to a BB1 once and could load the game but came up with a Drop Box Error - Pushed down on the mPU and noticed that there was more room to push down. Booted it back up and that error went away.


It's almost like one pin doesn't make the connection. Happened to me on a Bally Alpha as well but with my Tito not working.
