Has anyone sold slots on craigslist in California?
« on: September 30, 2015, 10:38:25 PM »
I was just wondering if any members had sold machines on craigslist in California? Has anyone sold IGT S2000’s or Game Kings on craigslist? Has anyone heard of problems that occurred to those attempting to sell? I have only sold privately.
I appreciate your time and any information you can provide.

Regards,

Philip

I heard two fellas up in Washington got busted selling on CL, I think the laws are similar between the two states.
If your going to advertise just be carful and know what your risking if the machines you own are not legal.
Not saying I agree with those jacked up laws applying to homeowners, but is what it is.

LA slots is openly advertising on CL with a huge selection of supposedly California legal slot machines. I highly doubt that they are all 25 years or older. They appear to all take coins but looks like the bill validators have been removed.
Maybe someone else here knows about that grey area if they don't take coins but take tokens only? To me...whatever they take, if they're not 25 years old, they're still not legal...right?m

It may be a case of figuring (or hoping) that the local cops have better things to do with their time than busting a homeowner for owning a machine that is technically not legal. I've had police officers tell me that as long as someone isn't running a private casino or gaming room for profit with the slots they don't care, that it would take a eager-beaver DA to force the police to take action. I think it is one of those laws that can be enforced if necessary but often isn't if the police perceive that you are just Joe Average with a slot machine in your home for entertainment.

But I'm not in California.....

I have done business with LA Slots for non gaming parts(bulbs, sockets, keys) but they are real careful about not selling me anything that is a gaming part(software, boards, etc.). I'm no expert on identifying machines but I believe they must be older Bally’s and IGT S and S+ models. At my vacation home I have a number of either S or S+ machines with video and bill changers. These are dated 1988 and would have been CA legal in 2013. They do have a pretty big wherehouse and a large open area in back.

I have sold a few over Craig’s List but they were all old enough to be legal in CA. After considering a bit, I think I will offer some machines here on this helpful site first. This is what I have done in the past.

Regards,

Philip
