Hi, folks,
I recently acquired a Munsters  that has a fairly new Wells-Gardner LCD upgrade. Although the screen is clear and the colors bright, the fine pixel resolution leaves something to be desired. It is being powered by the original 3902 and I do realize that there will be some degradation of signal quality being that it has to go though the A to D conversion and scaling. This is a given but I would think that the fine resolution should be a tad better than it is or, is this a common issue with this particular screen?
Thanx,
Bud

Nope, that is normal. The game is really old and meant to be displayed on a VGA screen (640x480).  Most LCD's 17" or 19" are either 800x600 or 1024x768, so the image is being up sampled to fit on the screen, thus leaving you a pixelated image, kind of the same thing if you take a low res photo and try to blow up big.  Some A/D boards have better scalers built-in, but it really depends on what Wells Gardner used for that particular LCD.  The newer 044 games run at 800x600 so you wouldn't get those Jaggies.

Thanx for the explaination. I figured as such. I will probably upgrade to an 044 mpu in the near future.

Two words...scan lines.  That era of games look way better on a brand new CRT compared to an LCD.  That's why I finally ditched all of the Game King 4.x and 5.x software and moved to 6.x...the version that was developed around LCD technology.  Just like arcade games from the 80's.  Pacman, Donkey Kong, etc. look fantastic on the old CRTs, but throw an LCD in there and it looks like complete garbage.

One reason why CRT monitors are equal to gold with the old school collectors.

Thanks,
Jason

Thanx for the advice Yoeddy. I saw this tidbit throughout my extensive search:

"It's rather easy really. Either get a drop in module and bezel kit or the door mount and new bezel.Like was mentioned before, see if you have a 19 pin or 25 pin video socket...but it seems like if you order a 25 pin these days it's a 19 pin with a adapter. If you are running a 3902 board you will want to change IC U17 (Ceronix CPI1404) so it looks a lot better.Kirk"

Anyone try this?

Maybe I will save my efforts until I swap out the 3902 with an 044, legacy board and a gk6.xx software addition, eh?
