Bally Alpha reel swap
« on: June 16, 2014, 11:13:13 AM »
Greetings!  I have 4 Bally Alpha 5-reel QuickHits and I'm trying to swap out a reel or two.  Basically some of the back lights on some of the reels don't work work correctly.  So to see if where the problem is, I'd like to simply move a reel or two from position to position, or from machine to machine and see if the problems follow the reel, or follow the reel position.  Net-net, I want to move reels around in the machines.  It looks like the machines are too smart for that:  Any time I place a reel into a different position, or into a different machine.  They no longer initialize.  Instead, on bootup, they quickly and repeatedly 'wink' at me, from reel #1 to reel #5 in quick order.  All the reel lights flash as part of this 'wink'.  Basically it's the machine telling me that the wrong reels are in the wrong positions.  The reels themselves must somehow be 'registered' to a particular machine and to a particular position.  How do I overcome this?

Thanks
Dean

Don't know if this helps or not but i have ran across several Alphas where the backlight plugs have been switched around. This would cause the wrong symbols or only half of a symbol to illuminate at the wrong time making it seem like there was a malfunction.

About the reel LED's not functioning properly.. - I have seen this a few times and it was due to the pins being pushed out of the connector. Once I pushed them all the way back into the connector/molex, all worked fine. Just an idea.

I swap reels only after a clear.  Can't say I have done it after full setup.  Will give it a try tonight to see if I get the same results as you.

You need to clear the machine to overcome this.  The reels can not be swapped in an active game without clearing the machine.
If it ain't broke don't mess with it.....

Is it a clear chip (like ISG S+ & S2000), or is it a clear CF card?  Obviously I don't have one.....  Good place to buy one?
