S+ hopper

Is it possible to remove the hopper completely then set up so zero pay's from hopper and all pays are handpay? If so, then would I have to jump the coin in so no coins register only bills? I am not having any problems with machines, just wondering? Would I also have to jump the hopper plug so the machine thinks it has a hopper? Sorry for the crazy questions, I'm sure someone has done it.

Ok I'll give this a shot and someone else can jump in to fix any errors on my part.  With the sp 1271 you can run with it hopper less per say. The hopper will stay in but in your settings you can have it run coin less with all wins just going to the credits.  You can also have it set up where certain pays will go into the jackpot mode. That is also set up with the sp1271 chip. As far as running without the coin comparator I believe that can have a jumper installed but there's really no need for that. Any quarter's inserted will just go into the hopper but if set up properly the hopper won't cash out. Hopefully that helps you out.  Like I said earlier I'm sure somebody else will give their input and clarify this for you.

I think that the issue is that you cannot set the hopper limit to 0, it has to be at least 1 I think. so if someone hits cash out, and there's no hopper you are going to get a 3300 error and no way to clear it until it pays out.  There's a device that was being sold back in the day that would emulate a hopper, so you could go coinless.  It would replace the hopper and was a little box that just plugged in there.  I haven't seen it in a while though, but it may still exist.

To add to this. What I also did was just disconnect the cash out button.  Then no way to cash out and all jackpots would then just need to be reset.

Honestly I would just get the
S2000 then.  If buying in bulk you can get them at a very good price.

The other hopper hack is to create a notched/tabbed cardboard wheel and attach that into your hopper wheel.
As the hopper turns the tabs pass by the hopper optics which makes it think a coin has passed. So if you cash out for 30 coins the hopper will run as 30 tabs pass by the optics. You need to have a hopper for an S+

Where did you get the hopper plug/connector.

Got the connector off of an old trashed hopper.

Tried to buy some of the same connector and found out it is not obsolete but very hard to get, got the part number somewhere in my notes.

There is a creative alternative though. Keystone sells a .250 spade terminal that is as long as the original blades on the old connector.

You could mount these terminals on a piece of Vector board so they line up with the machine side hopper plug and save $13 (min order of 50) for a new connector.

The Keystone part number is 1289-ST.
