IGT 044 with legacy adapter board runs slow
« on: January 31, 2019, 05:48:06 PM »
I did a conversion on my IGT I-Game 17" cabinet from a 3902 to an 044. I have an extra 044 CPU dedicated to a legacy board for 3902 game play. When I initially started the set up, the first ram error showed up, I turned the jackpot key as usual but the screen did not advance in the set up. After approx. 5 minutes or so, I pressed an held the setting button on the CPU and it finally advanced, but the jackpot key seemed to do nothing (very strange). After the game finally got set up, the game play overall is significantly slower than the original 3902 set up.

Is this normal with the 3902 games on the 044 platform or is something a miss with my set up?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

thx
Thank you,

ACE

Something went wrong with your setup.  You shouldn't notice any difference in game play between a 3902 MPU and a 044 with legacy adapter board.  Try clearing it and setting it up again.

I have done it twice now. I usually keep my Superstar Poker in it, I have dedicated backplane eproms for each game that I also swap out. Is it possible the 3902 game still use the 24wc128 instead of the 256 chips for the 044 games? I'm trying to run Lobstermania, it is single denom, not sure if that is a problem.

thx for the info, much appreciated

3902 boards use 24C16 EEPROMs.  044 use 24C256s (even if running 3902 software on a legacy adapter board).

Is it an international version of Lobstermania?  If so, I'm told international software versions don't run correctly on the legacy adapter boards.

I'm not 100% sure if its international or not , it is single denom. When setting up hopper, credit, jackpot limits, they are displayed in dollars.

BASE - I0000749
CFG - C0000711
GME - G0001025
SNDF - DSS00138
PXL - C0000711

these are eproms and simms I have.

That's a US version.  What DSP chip do you have on the legacy adapter board?

It came with the board, it has a generic label on it with no clear info on it, at least to me.

Try pulling it out and running the game without it and see if it makes a difference.  You won't have any sound, but see if the game speed is correct.  If not, the only other thing I can find that may be an issue is this blurb from the 044 manual is this:

Note: Some of the very early SIMM cards installed into IGT 80960 product may not be compatible with the 044 classic legacy board. We are talking about the cards that were used, primarily, in 1999 and early 2000. This should be an extremely rare occurrence, but it could happen on the 76800830 and 76800831 SIMM boards. If this does come up, a free exchange for an updated SIMM card will be required. This is cover under CN: 3940.

I'll give that a shot tomorrow, got Super Bowl madness happening today. I had a feeling anyway of breaking down and trying to find a set of multi-denom Lobstermania. The single denom I have only maxes out at 100,000 CREDITS instead of DOLLARS. That's not a big inconvenience for me, however when my parents are over, they love the game but can't remember to turn the jackpot key when it get topped out (LOL!!!).

I appreciate your advise on this, I'll check back in after I reinstall it.
Thank you,

ACE
