742a question
« on: June 04, 2020, 04:58:40 PM »
Early 742a has the number C=654 C cast into the bottom left side of the door, none of my other Bally EM's have this.  Its missing the tag, any chance this part of the serial number?

Nope. Nothing to do with the serial#. That's the Bally part# for the lower door frame. Without the original serial# plate, it's impossible to know.
Bally 742A-240, 742A-107B, 785-ZP, 809-B, 831-R, 873-K, 1113, 1239-E, 1256-E, V2236-10, V2096-47, S5000+, V5000+, S5500, S6000, IGT PE, Flip-It, Jennings 400, WMS BB1 Goldfish

bally made 100's of versions of the 742a.

to narrow things down, there will be numbers on the slotted metal index disks on the reels - probably P-484-xxx, but could be P-584 or P-684 if you have a 25 or 22 stop game.

the payout counter printed circuit plate will have an M-645-xxx number

the reels strips will have an m-220-xxx number on them (or m-225-), but it's printed on the overlap and you can't see it without removing the top part of the strip.  Easier to write down the symbols in order on each strip - starting with the "top" symbol, then try and match it to reel strip documentation that I have some of.

if the glass isn't generic bally, that helps too.  So does the coin denomination.

It’s a white side Money Honey.  I was just trying to figure out when it was made in 1964.  Any chance you know when Bally changed from the White sides to plain cabinets?

whether the white sides was model specific or they just did it until they ran out of the formica sheets with the white area I don't think will ever be resolved.

According to a Dan Mead article in jan/feb 1990 Loose Change, a couple Bally employees said the white sides were only on the 742 (110V machine), while in the same article the 742A-1F is listed as "Money-Honey White side with Jackpot Bell..."
