Rick,  The jumper on backplane was used on factory gamemaker alpha hd's. The other where the 5/12 goes is also just a jumper.  All orginal gamemaker hd's were born this way.  You may just have a conversion either done by casino, other or you, but yours was not born a gamemaker.  It doe's not matter becuase it works all the same.  Yes you will gain a pwr. supply and less pwr draw on this application.  perhaps even some other hardware such as side light contoller board etc. which is not needed on these.

I've been following this topic so I am asking a question....

If your cabinet has more power and you are not using the max, does it hurt to have a power supply that doesn't use the power? My thinking is no...right? So what is the issue?

On another hand, if you don't have enough power, what would happen? Game Errors? No power up? what?

That is a good question-Yes and no.  The orginal factory ones just used the 24v as stated.  If you have a 5/12 in there then yes you are using power, Powering up the internal componets and non-needed devices for this machine.  Another note as one born this way will carry a side id tag of "v-20/20" not s-9, Both applications work, which most may Know.  A alpha carring the tag of v-20 by itself means you could pop a 20 in top and go v-20/20-most of these were just video bottom and glass/plexi in top but they recieve the conversion nicely.  Lot's of other diff. variations also. Also orginal hd gamemakers have labels, signed labels, order numbers on stickers etc. verifying gamemaker.

My gamemaker HD cabinet is a weird one.  It is not as deep as my other alpha cabinets.  The bottom door is also not "at an angle" like my other alphas.  When you are on a flat surface, my gamemaker cabinet door opens level, that is, the gap between any part of the door and the floor is constant, on my other alpha cabinets, as you open the door, the side farthest away from the hinge is higher than the side with the door hinge.  It came with both power supplies.  I also notice that the backplane does not have a socket to put the thick 4 wire (on a 6 position connector) jumper.  I only have 1 backplane that has this connector, and it was the one I purchased as a spare.

Rick,  That is strange but interesting.  I just looked at some diff. alpha's here and did see a few without the 6-pin socket on back-plane.  One was in a m-9000 and other in a v-20 but no depth differances or door diff. other than the m-9000.  May be a older or newer machine-- :Scratch-Head: .  What does your tag say and date.
