And another one... Bally 1129?
« on: January 11, 2015, 03:58:38 PM »
So, like everything else I guess, it's feast or famine when it comes to these machines. Picked up another one today. This one has the data plate on it at least lol. Bally 1129. Guy said there's a solenoid locked on when it's powered on. Haven't looked into it yet. Maybe a bad transistor? I don't know, but here it is!

That plate should say E-1129 since it is an E1000 machine

I looked, and there's not even a spot where the "E" could have worn off. I always end up with wonky stuff I guess. I have read that the E1000 machines were not that good?

Also, this one is set up for tokens, at least according to the top box glass. I like my EM that takes quarters, it's a better change storage system than a coffe can lol. Is it hard to change one of these back to quarters?

Looks like the 3rd reel is free spinning while reels 1 and 2 are locked like normal. I'll pull the reels and take a look. Are the reels held on to the main shaft by a shear pin or something?

Did this come from the factory with the reel stop buttons on it? Seems a little odd...

GOS,
I know the E-1235 has motorized reels but I didn't think there were any other models..

Those skill stop buttons are unusual, I have never seen nor heard of them before.

Yeah, the skill stop buttons are weird. I'm about to pull the reels so I'll be able to tell you guys "reel" quick if they're moto driven or not. See what I did there?  :garfield:

Dhellis, depending on what I find, I might be sending you the boards to see what's what. I've read about your fine work on the forum.

Here's the reels gentlemen. No motors. I know why the one reel spun free, the pawl? in the back is gummed up and wouldn't release easily like the other two. If I plug the machine in without the reels in will it hurt anything? Unfortunately this machine has seen some moisture at some point. Just surface rust on the internal metal parts but still. More cleaning. I apologize for the sideways pics btw, I don't know why my iPad does that.

Yuck :)

You really need to make sure that all of these pawls and the linkage are cleaned lubricated and free moving.
If you notice between each reel there is also a small aluminum piece. At the top of those there is a small
hole so you can put a drop of oil for the reel bearings using a zoom spout.

This is also the first time that I have seen the reel reader decoder mounted to the side of the board.
I think you said you had all 0's on test 5 so this would be a likely cause. There are only 3 IC's so easier
to swap them all rather than troubleshooting. The chips are a 74145, 7417 and a 74C14. My only recommendation
is that you use a 74C14 or a CD40106. A 74S or LS14 will not work.

**EDIT**
GOS also said reel reader decoder or IO board and he said it first. I don't want to take anything away from his
assistance

Yessir. Gonna be a good bit of disassembly on this reel mech. A lot of pieces Going in the tumbler. Is that the star shaped aluminum piece set into the inside of the reel with the oil hole? I haven't run a test yet as I did not even plug it in because I knew the reel was free spinning for some reason. The guy I bought it from said a coil is locked on somewhere in it, so I haven't had an assistant to man the plug while I looked for it lol. Didn't want to burn anything up if I didn't have to ya know? I appreciate your input on those chips as well dhellis.

Yes, those star (almost) shaped aluminum pieces. No problem on the chip detail. I learned the hardway
that 7414, 74LS14 and 74S14 don't work. It has to be propagation delay (time it takes the signal to rise and/or fall)
that makes the difference and CMOS is faster than TTL

Disassembly and concurrent cleaning continues. Messy messy messy.  I'm guessing that the Bally oil recommended in the manual is close to 3 in 1 oil? Any readily available equal to the grease they recommend?

Awesome. Thank you very much. Ordered a tube. It's clearly been awhile since this machine saw any kind of maintenance. Lucky I got it for a good price!

Update. I've been cleaning the reel mexh for awhile now. Dust, dirt, and surface rust everywhere. The machine is out in the garage, and I take a look inside when I have time. Near as I can figure, Happy Days FEC down in Kissimmee FL converted this to a "skill stop" machine. The wiring for the buttons goes into the main boards for the machine. I'm afraid they might have changed some of the chips in the board to make this happen. I have no problem leaving the stop buttons on the front of the machine, as they'd leave big holes in the door, but I'm hoping I can convert it back to a regular slot. Anyone ever seen anything like this?
