IGT S+ Locking on all external parts
« on: February 03, 2015, 03:15:16 PM »
I have a Double Diamond that when you turn it on and after it boots momentarily shows 61 then, it locks on the hopper, CC, Handle release, and jackpot bell.  It had a bad battery that I replaced, I put in the ram clear chip which reset normally (with nothing locking on) and put cpu in another game which gave the same symptoms.

Let's start here:
with the power on and 61 on display open door and press the reset button (it's usually right beside the on/off toggle switch)
the 61 should change to 61-1
close door
turn jackpot reset switch once and release it

after a few seconds the game inset coin light should come on and the slot should be ready to play

Since you did a clear you will have to set all your options including turning the BV on and setting denom. A clear should be your last option. You had an easy fix and now a lot of settings to do.
Thank Ya Thank Ya Very Much.

I would think if he has things "locking up", then he's not quite ready to set any options, as the S+ restores to factory default settings with a clear (which is then ready to play). Contrary to SOME belief, S+ does NOT NEED a SET chip to choose the DENOMINATION to operate properly (just a sample coin in the door will do it), unless you have a functional BILL VALIDATOR which you wish to enable.

Can you tell us exactly what you mean by "locks on the hopper, CC, Handle release, and jackpot bell"?  Are you saying that the jackpot bell starts ringing constantly after you turn the machine on?

Locking up means,  the hopper is dumping all the money, the cc LED is on, the jackpot bell is ringing and most lamps are turned on.  I have repaired at least 100 of these machines in the past and this is the first one that I have seen do this.

since you put the SUSPECT cpu board in another machine and it did the same thing tells me the problem is with the board. only two things that could cause this,  the software chips are bad, or something on the board itself is bad. you could eliminate the chips by putting them in a different board and see what happens. inspect the board for jumper settings different, chips put in the wrong way (anything with a socket), did the battery leak over the board??

Why did you do a clear after replacing the battery? That is not necessary.

And was this machine working prior to that or is it a "new to you" machine?

I did a clear as a last resort, I am well aware of what the procedure is to replace a battery I have replaced many of them.  There is no corrosion on the board.
