IGT Hot Pepper machine problems
« on: February 14, 2015, 01:51:16 PM »
HELP!  We have a 25¢ Hot Pepper machine and it has developed multiple problems.  First I replaced the battery which seemed to fix the initial problems but now the bill accepter won't work and when you get a winning combination of any kind, the machine just continues to ring and no payout occurs.  It doesn't seem that the coin tumbler is working either.  Does anyone know what I can do to fix our machine?  We love playing it but now it is just frustrating to look at.

Thank you very much;

G.R.

Sometimes simply changing the battery is not enough.

You may need to run a Set Denomination chip on the machine to set the denomination so the bill acceptor will work and know how many credits to apply for a given bill.

Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

Welcome to NLG. Did you do a clear after the battery change. If so you'll need a set chip to install settings again. Also with that chip you'll have to enable the bill validator. Not hard to do, don't worry you're in the right place.

Please just tell us the exact steps taken after changing the battery, AND what other issues you were having BEFORE the battery change.

After a clear, an S+ returns to factory defaults, and the game is completely playable at that point. Nothing has to be changed to play on coins. To enable the validator, a SET chip will be needed to establish denom and ENABLE bill validator.

OK, before I replaced the battery, both cable lights were blinking and the bill acceptor had the blue ambulance blinking.
I talked to a woman at Ohio gaming and she mentioned I should change the battery since the "12" code kept coming up.
After I replaced the battery, the code 61 came up and then I pushed the little white button next to the on/off switch and the 61-1 came up.
I closed the door and the wheels spun.  The bill acceptor stopped being lit.  The machine will accept coins but will not payout on a combination.
It just rings constantly until I turn the key once.  That's where the machine is as of now.

Sounds like your hopper limit is set to zero so everything goes to handpay. Also, your bill validator likely needs to be enabled and your denom set

Thank you Badbaud.
I don't have a good understanding on how to implement your suggestions.  I have read that I might need to purchase a set chip as well. Can you please tell me how to set the hopper & would the set denomination chip be the same as a set chip?
Thank you.

Sounds like your handle may be froze. Most of the time a little WD40 on the mechanical parts that mesh un-freezes it.

Call Larry about how to set your denomination 702-363-9998

If the handle never worked then it could be as simple as the solenoid/coil that unlocks the handle is unplugged or gone bad. Generally after inserting the first coin or playing the first credit the handle is released (unlocked) so it can be pulled if player prefers that to pushing a button to play.  Did the handle work at one time and then stopped working after this recent event?

Hello, the handle seems to be working fine now.  The issues are that the bill accepter blinks a blue ambulance and the coins don't payout on winning combo's.
The machine just rings continuously until i reset it with the key.

As others have said when the battery was changed the machine may have lost its previous settings and now you many need to check the settings and change them as needed. If you don't know how to do that then you'll need to learn how, either by reading the machine's installation & operator manual, or find out from the company/person that sold it to you or learn how from a person familiar with that model. It's just part of being an owner, unless you have someone nearby that can take care of it for you. Some machines can be set so that they put any winnings to the credits instead of paying out. Another setting is to have the winnings paid by hand by the casino attendant if it is above a certain level, yours may be set to zero so that all winnings are hand paid.

There's a lot of discussions about this model machine here on NLG and the old NLG website, you can search those threads and learn a lot about your machine. Hopefully the problems you are seeing with it are not from a parts failure but are simply from it's settings getting changed.

Have you read thru this particular discussion about a similar problem with the bill validator and blue ambulance flashing?
