Fuse Holder Caps for E-Series
« on: March 06, 2015, 04:23:25 PM »
What is a good part number and/or source for replacement of the old fuse holder caps on an E-Series?  A lot of similar looking caps on Ebay, but not sure if they will fit correctly.

It might be difficult to find exact replacement. I would recommend replacing the entire fuse holder as they do get crispy over time due to age. They are easy to replace. Remove 2 screws , unplug the harness and the entire fuse holder assembly comes out. Then  you can inspect the others. Unsolder 2 wires , remove the nut and its out.

:agreepost:  Most of the times a fuse caps missing, is because the fuse holders damaged. Your better off just replacing the whole thing.

I probably will end up replacing all of them.  I was getting resets quite often and it ended being a bad cap on the power supply board fuse - one of the metal tangs had broken off - switched it with the general illum cap and all is well now.  Just wanted a quick fix for the one I'm missing now.   It looks like the threaded screw-on caps would be a lot more dependable than these 1/4 turn twist-on types.  Anyway, just wanted to verify these weren't abundantly available somewhere because I came up empty searching for them.  Thanks for the reponses.

Well these 1/4 type worked well for the first 30+ years of their lives. I don't think you can ask for much more..

I think I finally found replacements - Littelfuse P/N 342012.  I ordered some - we'll see if they are exact replacements or not.  The cap appears to be the only thing that is wrong with mine, so it will be an easy fix if it is the same as the original.  Probably be good for another 30 years.

Something else to consider - it seems like almost all of the easy-to-find fuse holders out there require a larger panel mounting hole than the 1/2" one in these machines - this 342012 is an exception.

that 342012 is for the entire fuseholder including cap, right? Or is it just for the replacement cap?

Just got the 342012A's today.  Exact fit!  These are obsolete (mine were 2001 stock), but still readily available and well worth it to make your power distribution stable.

Good to know there's a replacement out there. I have a ton of Jennings 400 machines that have sporadic problems with the fuse holders as well.
