hello, im a newbie when it comes to the slot machine world although once upon a time i worked as a game tech many moons ago. what i'm working on is an igt balloon bars balloon race slant top. i think its an s2000. the battery on the game board was bad so i replaced it and got an ivc97 reset chip as well as a key17 chip. here is my problem. after going through all the steps for the clear chip and key chip when i arrive at the key 17 menu i cant do anything because the buttons (of which there are 5) on the door don't work. they don't even light up and never have. so after checking all the connections on the wiring harness and boards i'm thinking the problem lies with the door i/o board. i have a few questions which are: are all the door i/o boards interchangeable? my board is an 75427800 rev a and all i can find that are close are 801's and 802's. is there something else that would cause this problem? i checked the power supply for proper voltages and they are right on the money. i also changed out the game board and the super stepper back board with the same results, the buttons still no workie. any help would be greatly appreciated- thank you for your time.

Hi and welcome to NLG!
There are a couple things it could be but questions first.
Does the VFD display show key menu 7 after you key it? Are you keeping the door open after you remove the key chip and reinsert the SB chip?
Some key chips won't work on some newer SB chips, unlikely in your case with your setup, but possible. What SB chip do you have on your MPU?
And lastly, the 800 revision is somewhat rare. The 5 button deck generally uses the 801, which replaced the 800 and the 10 button decks used the 802's in pairs. Though it's possible to use a single 802 on the 5 button deck

Hi, sorry for not responding sooner, I think I looked at your reply at work the other day and in taking time to think about your issue promptly forgot to post back :fryingpan:
It sounds like you've done all the normal things to address this issue as far as changing boards that could cause the problem and checking wire issues. When you close the door or first turn on the machine do you get a maiden spin of the reels? I'm wondering if there is something else holding it like a cash box door switch that isn't making up or a bad reel light control board, something of that nature. I'm guessing you've tried doing a clear and key again and gotten the same issue, but if you haven't, please do. Also, and this is very important, never change boards or unplug anything with the machine turned on.
