Help with SP chip numbers
« on: October 04, 2023, 06:26:19 PM »
I have this S+ Wild Star Red White Blue 5 coin game that I am working on. I am confused as to which SP ship it should have installed in it.

I have read all the docs in the RTF thread and the chip that is currently in it seems wrong for the machine?
It currently has a SP1160 and a SS4944 reel chip. This is the explanation listed in the FAQ of that chip number.

"SP1160 Type 0,1,4,5 10MHz, ID023, SET088/89/90/91, $0.01,0.05, 9 Paylines - SAS communication, no mention of credit transfer"

This is a .25 cent machine with 5 coin option and one payline? It all seems to play properly except for the bill validator does not recognize and I noticed it does not pay out well so I was researching higher percentage payout SS chips when I noticed that the SP number seems wrong.

Any recommendations on the proper chip to use with this? I cant seem to find this particular game listed in the chip identification guides I have access too.

Thank you,

Both of those are fine for your machine.  SS4944 is a low payout reel chip at 87%.  Here's a link to the game from the S+ bible:

http://www.newlifegames.net/igtbible/IGT%205CM/Game%20Library%20-%20S-Plus%20-%20Wild%20Star%20Red,%20White%20&%20Blue%20(5%20Coin%20.htm

You may need a SET chip to set the machine denomination and enable the validator.  Member RB can probably help you with both.

Thanks for the reply, guess I still don’t understand how and why these chips are different if a 9 line chip with no mention of 25 cent demon works in a single line quarter machine?

I have a S+ BV chip, Ive enabled it and set the denom.

A 9 line SS chip will not pay right in a single line game.  Denom means nothing to an S+ machine, a credit is a credit.  You only have to tell the BV how many credits to give per dollar.  SP chips are for different types of games.(type 0,1,4 (haywire etc.) Denom means nothing to an SP chip either.

Thank you, That makes more sense. I changed out the chip for a SP731 I had around, ran the set B/V, changed the denom to 25(which it would not let me do with the sp1160) and the game seems to play way better even has reel sounds that were not there before, however I am still battling the B/V. I will make another thread in the appropriate place after I test some more.

...I changed out the chip for a SP731 I had around, ran the set B/V, changed the denom to 25(which it would not let me do with the sp1160) and the game seems to play way better even has reel sounds that were not there before...

The SP1160 uses any one of these four SET chips...>>> 88, 89, 90, or 91.
Your SP731 only needs a SET015 to enable the DBV and to set the machine's denomination value.

From the SP1160 Program Summary Report...>>>

Denomination Modifications:

Requires the SET chip.
When the denomination is set to zero (none), the bill acceptor is disabled (if present), the game does not display progressive amounts, and all progressive wins cause the game to go to a hand-pay condition.
The denomination can be set at $0.01, $0.05, $0.10, $0.25, $0.50, $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $25, $50, $100, or zero (none).

As you can clearly see, the SP1160 supports denomination of a quarter.
You MUST have been doing something incorect when you tried to set your denomination, or your SP1160 chip is corrupted.

Yah I don’t know, maybe I have the wrong set chip for the 1160. All mine says is DV Set on it. It would let me in and change9-0 to  9-1, then when I pressed the program button once I could  to whatever I wanted and 25 cents was there, but after I pressed the program button to save it, it would revert back to zero next time I scrolled through. When I used the 731 then the set chip it changed to 25 and stayed there? I am new at this am sure I’m probably doing something wrong, but learning slowly.

You don't need to press a "program button" to save it....just turn off the power, take the SET chip out, and replace with the SP chip.

Had tried that as well, then each time I went back to check it would be back at zero. I know I am doing that part right because the 731 chip holds 25 easily using the same technique.

Okay..maybe it doesn't save it when you use the SP1160 because it's the wrong SET chip?  :scratch-head_2: :scratch-head_3:
I may have learned something new today?
