New to slots need help
« on: September 01, 2016, 03:26:09 PM »
Just bought this IGT Reel Detectives not working, this box in the pics makes a clicking sound and has a red light on it, no lights anywhere else in the machine, any ideas would be appreciated.

To me, that looks like a progressive meter controller. Can you post a couple pics of the whole machine and tell us where the component pictured is located?

Thanks for your reply, I think you are correct when I plugged the ribbon into the connector on the back of the glass I did get some flashing lights however I still do not have power to anything else. I will try to get better pics in the daylight tomorrow.

Thanks again

It's a mikohn cham II or cham I progressive controller (need photos top down to confirm).  That Reel Detective game is a clone of Sizzling 7's.  The other "Bally" box is for player tracking. You don't need that either.  You should unplug power to all those.  I can't tell by the picture if you even have an MPU on the machine.  I know for sure there's no reels installed.

I pulled the reels but do have them and I believe I have an MPU if that's the computer board in the bottom left of the machine.
I will take more pics tomorrow thanks for your help.

I took these pics today,  I removed the junk in the top and finally got power to the machine. Now I have lights I have no reel movement enact a nettles link error. There are a few wires not connected on the bill acceptor as in the pic could this be causing the error and does anyone know where these things plug in. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm no expert by any means but you're going to need to get that MPU in it's tray. Asking for trouble.

A netplex error can be attributed to a loose power supply, a weak varta battery depending on your MPU type or an actual netplex device. Make sure the power supply behind the reels is pluggex in tight and post a picture of your MPU if that doesn't help

Some awful pics.  When removing player tracking and display box it is nec. to restore factory connections and a clear as this looks to be jacked up. Make SURE that all wires are connected properly -I/O inputs etc.

Checked power supply and it is pushed in tight, her are some pics of mcu it looks like it's missing a battery or does this board not need one.
I am still getting the netplex error will disconnect the bill validator and ticket dispenser help diagnose this problem.

Thanks again

Jimise, I'm going to take a stab at something to see if I'm learning anything. The missing battery would not be connected to his netplex error, correct?

I don't think so. At least with a "low battery", (I had to change one on an S2000 last weekend) the machine will usually boot just fine, and give you the low battery warning at the very end.
Being that it completely gone, It may do some other strange things. I'm sure some one else will chime in on that.

Coin battery must be replaced. A key chip will likely be required to turn off the progressive that is no longer installed.
As far as the netplex I would not do anything until after you replace the coin battery. (Do not replace the green varta battery it is not needed) the coin battery must be replaced.

When you do replace the battery, pick up a coin battery holder, and 2032 coin battery.
Solder that holder in and just snap your battery in.
