S2000 Reel 1/3 Tilt
« on: April 05, 2019, 05:03:29 PM »
Hello all!

I recently purchased a Triple Double Hot Peppers machine. It has the cash box and I believe the main door bypassed. I was originally getting a main door open error but have corrected that and now upon restart, I am getting a reel 1 tilt and closure M and other times I am getting a reel 3 tilt with closure m. I am also unable to access the attendent reset, only the accounting options are available when turning the key.

Any thoughts or troubleshooting ideas.

Thanks!

Two things the door must be open when you turn the jackpot key to reset the reels.
Second you may need to check and adjust your optics on the door.  If the optics are off just a little they will throw random reel codes because the machine is sensing the door open intermittently.

Both of your issues are related. Door optics adjustment is the probable cause.

The key resets the jackpot or a handpay. Or if you have a reel tilt with the reels turning slow and making noise, then opening the door, turning the key and shutting the door resets that. Pushing the white button on the MPU will enter tests. Are you sure nothing is rubbing on the reels? Closure M means the door has been opened and usually goes away with the first paid game.

So I am able to close the door and the machine recognizes the closure. The machine will then re-spin the reels and will display the denomination and insert money display but will then return to the reel 1 or reel 3 tilt. I've swapped reels and nothing is rubbing against them.

When you get the reel tilt and open the door do the reels turn slowly? If they do with the door open turn the jackpot key, the reels should then stop. If you then close the door and latch it the reels should spin again and machine should be ready to play. If you then play and the reel tilt returns your door optic adjustment is still the most likely cause.

I agree. Door vibration or loose hinge screws. I had one that the mpu didn't seat well in the MB and would kick out during spins.

Ok new update. Today I was able to clear the optic error main door open but was still getting tilt errors. I went into I/o testing and my reel 1 and 3 are giving a result of (0) instead of (1). Does that mean my reels are bad or is there another problem with optics or main board?

Thanks

Try pushing on those reels to make sure they are fully plugged in.  They are tight sometimes, and need a good shove.

Another possibility, if you have a Enhanced 1270 board with software other than SG598 can cause annoying reel tilts, but easily rectified by changing the SG chips.

With the machine off try reseating the plug going to the plug from the reels on the motherboard (large black plug. When you switch reel 1 with reel 2 does it still indicate reel 1 and 3 bad?

I will give that a try. When I switch reels out, it gives me a different reel tilt every time. They all spin fine but the last reel to stop takes a lot longer than the others. I am also still experiencing door optics issues, so maybe all of this is still tied to that?

I'm also wondering why my attendent key will not stop the reels even when the door is open. It's only sending me to accounting mode. It seems like it's like a stacked tilt that won't let me clear.

Didn't you say your optics are bypassed? Might have to check switch

I was mistaken, just the cash box is bypassed. Looks like the optics are not as they are not alternating between 0/1 in the I/o testing. Would misaligned optics be causing a reel tilt even when at times I get a main door closure message and then the reels spin to reset?

Try placing a piece of painters tape on the side of the cabinet and the side of the door. Draw a line where each optic is. Now close the door and check lines. If they do not line up adjust cabinet side optic up or down

So I tried to match up my optics but still having trouble. I'm going to try a bypass as discussed in a previous thread. Is there anyway to avoid splicing wires? I found the male/female adaptor behind reel 1 so I think it would be possible. Any advice?

Ok, so I bypassed the optics and have been able to clear the door open error but am still getting a Reel Tilt. Sometimes it's Reel 1, then I close the door and it switches to Reel 3. How can I clear this or troubleshoot it?

Also under service mode, my Reel 1 and 3 optics both say 0 while my other three reels say 1, but at the same time, the Tilt seems to follow the reels when I move them around so idk.

I have attached the video at startup to show the Tilt and how the reels spin.

I would try another mpu board. Just had a 5 reel machine this week also with reel tilts and it was a bad mpu. The one I had was a 502 not enhanced. But I have had reel tilts on the enhanced also.

Thanks, I was leaning towards needing a new board too. Will I need clear keys when I put the stepper and base into the new board?

Try unplugging your reel harness from the back plane board and plug it back in. Had a problem with a machine that spun all reels then said reels disconnected. Did you say the problem follows the reel. I see it is 1 and 3 not functioning properly. If you move them to say 4 and 5, does it then become 4 and 5? If yes, then bad reels
