Munsters VFD Help
« on: March 17, 2022, 09:33:52 PM »
Hi everyone. I have a munsters S2000 that i would like to have the vfd display 2 lines instead of the 1 big single. I currently have GX0 version chip in it and it loads and plays just fine. When i put GX1 chip in the ms verify fails to load and the process stalls. Is there anything i can do to get the 2 line display on my vfd? Or am i stuck with how it is with the single.

Thanks everyone.

When you change the VS chip, I believe you have to change the GME chips also?  Check with NLG member RB or maybe someone with more knowledge than me will chime in here.

I believe that is a vision set up.
If you want the split display you will need SG000380s along with the gx1.
I will say I have not seen a machine like yours with a large LCD monitor like that.

Question is the machine multi denominational with the 248 chips? I see the cabinet shows multi denom but from my memory 248s only play single denomination.

I'm not familiar with the Vision series, but I see a Varta on the 1270 MPU. Should that be removed?

Should be removed along with the charging chip right?

Quite a different machine. Has a board in the bottom of the cabinet, external SB chip on the MPU tray, and a large monitor with no award glass.

Why in the world would they move the SB socket externally like that?  :Scratch-Head:
Somebody did a lot of mods to this S2000 that's for sure....it even has Jonathan K. Munch's old double circuit TITO board in it. :sherlock:
Somebody had those reel strips made somewhere too...the 1st reel strip appears to be too short as the strip numbers are peeking out?

I'd really like to see the back of that monitor and how it is hooked up to the topbox LCD computer.
Maybe they didn't have a topbox 16"glass and constructed a pretty cool display mod.  :cool_thumb_up:

**Update**

Ohh! I see what they did!
They left the LCD computer face down on the bottom instead of plugging it into the Netplex up  in the topbox.
They used the external video output on the bottom of the computer LCD with a video harness running up to the topbox! Cool!

That's where I plugged in my keyboard and mouse in the LCD computer a long time ago but the other pinouts were for video.
Look at the CF card reader on the floor with the ribbon IDE cable? haha
That's quite a Vision LCD mod!
Jaycyn414, who did you get this machine from? I'd like to get in touch with him if possible.
I never figured out the pinouts for an external video display from the bottom of the LCD computer.
Did they do all this stuff or did they get it from somebody else?

Ha, i thought the same thing when i saw the external zif mount. I picked up the machine for $60 bucks so i didn't complain, to be honest i didn't really even look at it much when i bought it, got it home, changed the battery and fired it up and realized it was a munsters machine, found glass and topper and cleaned up the cab. I have had the top monitor out before to install the topper. Pc monitor with the back half removed and mounted to a couple 1/4inch pieces of plexi. The monitor glass is just a cut glass with tape for the black border. The tito and uba i added.

The reel glass is not correct, it is only single denom. I have the short reel shelf but until i find the correct glass I'm just leaving it for now, i'll have to move the printer down as well later too. I will see if i have those chips in my stash and give them a try. Thank you qbert

The person i bought it from had just bought the house and was remodeling it. He said there was a bunch of slot parts in the house when he bought it, he dropped it all off at a goodwil he said. He took the machine out of the house and just had it sitting outside full of paint overspray and dust. I would've loved to have talked to person who did the mods too.

Very cool modifications to this machine. I’m digging the ZIF socket, very unique!

Jaycyn414,
Could you show us that round gray video harness in better detail at both ends?
From the bottom of the LCD computer up to the monitor?
I'm wondering what monitor he used too.
I'd like to try to hook a Vision up to a larger screen like that. :cool_thumb_up:
If you can stick a camera in close to the plugs to see which pins are being used would be awesome.
I could use an old LCD screen on my Vision as a tester....the screen must be a 19" or 20" diagonal size?

Here are a few pics of the cable, I'll have to get the meter on it later for the pin out. The cable is only 16inches in length then plugs into a regular VGA cable that runs to the top box. Monitor is a 19", I'll try and pull the monitor out later today and get you guys some pics.

It looks to be an older style vga cable that was cut and plug added.

Yes....how they pinned it is the question.

I'd check with a small pin in the VGA connector at each hole and multimeter for continuity?

It won't be easy but thanks for taking the time to figure it out!  :applause:

This 19" LCD mod for Visions is awesome for those that can't find the 16" topbox glass.
