S2000 no power
« on: April 04, 2023, 08:20:04 AM »
Hello all, I have a S2000 White Stars slot machine.  It use to work. I had it working about 3 years ago. It had been setting in my garage for the last couple years. I plugged it in and turned it on and heard a pop like noise. I sent the board off along with a few others. He checked the board out and got it working 100% on his test fixture. He said there was nothing major wrong with this board. It is a regular board. I put the board in the machine and when I turned it on there is no power to the machine. There is power to the service light. Is there a fuse somewhere that I need to check? I did clean out a small like nest in the bottom of machine. I cant see that having anything to do with it being so far away from any electrical components. Any ideas what could be keeping me from getting power? Would appreciate any ideas and help. Thanks

With the power switch OFF - behind the reels is the power supply. In many cases, the screw that attaches it has come loose and the power supply wiggled free. Check to make sure the p/s is seated and the screw is tight. Pull Reels 1 and 2 straight out and you'll have access to the power supply.

shortrackskater, Thanks for the reply. I did as you said and the results were wierd. I pulled reels one and two out. The thumb screw was a little loose. So I pushed on the power supply good to the right and tightened the thumb screw. When I first got it back together and turned it on it done nothing. So I was like that did not do anything. I was setting there thinking about 10 to 15 seconds and all of a sudden the machine fired up. All flouresent lights came on and fan started running. It booted up. I reset the machine and everything now works. I turned the machine off and on a few times and the machine starts booting as soon as I turn the power switch on. No delay at all. Could it be the power supply was not making good contact? Should I do something else? Thanks

If you take it out, and look at the pins in the back of it, you may have a burnt one.
It would be a ground pin for the 25volts I believe...sort of like what happens with the S+'s.
Anyways, it works now....thank your lucky stars!

So to take it out do I just remove the 1st and 2nd reel then undo the thumb screw? After that just pull the power supply out to the left? Thanks

If machine is now working fine after tightening I would just leave it alone. It just worked it's self loose, happens all the time.

In my mind I keep thinking there has to be something else going on with it besides just being loose. The 15 second delay after tightening the thumb screw up and turning it on the first time is what bothers me. I am selling it to a good friend and I want to make sure he dont have trouble right after he gets it home. I have got a couple of newer machines so I am thining out my older machines some. Thanks

Let it get cold and try it again. Your power supply may be just starting to fail. Failing capacitors will work when warm, but not when cold.  If it's still working well then I don't think I'd worry about it. Easy to replace if it comes to that.

lookes, this is the machine I told you about that kinda popped when I turned it on before I sent you the boards. You said there was no board damage from anything in the cabinet. You said it could be from a bad connection coming thru the speakers. I will probably just make sure the thumb bolt is tightened up good. Then if it works fine after I turn it back on I will just let it go. If he has trouble with it I will just buy one and take it to his house and install it.  He just lives across the street. Thanks
