Bally 809 ZZB Slot machine hopper help!
« on: March 26, 2024, 02:01:53 PM »

I bought a Bally 809 ZZB slot with no hopper. I bought a hopper from a guy it says 809B on it but it has 30 male pins on the beau plug with 30 wires one in each pin. The problem is my 809 ZZB slot hasa 30 pin female  beau plug with only 27 wires. The 3 bottom beau pins are not used.I think the payout units for the 809b and 908ZZB are the same. I dont think this hopper is from an 809. can anyone help me identify this hopper and possibly with some rewiring if it will work with this slot. Thanks Much

the 809 used an electrically stepped payout counter and your hopper has a mechanically stepped one, so it won't work unless there is also a step-up coil on the unit ... or you add one and the missing pieces along with the switches that the coin out roller arm would activate instead of the spring/linkage there now.

it's probably easier to go hopper hunting again :-(

Guys, Im in the process of getting an electrically stepped hopper. Educate me on something. On the hopper payout board for 25 cent payout for the 809B shows  2-5-10-14-18-50-100-200   The 809B schematic also shows a 20 .  Is the 20 for a 5 cent payout?   What payout board do I need for a 25 cent 809B?   Oh by the way I bought the old hopper from Barry Foxx at Foxx Slots years back.   Thanks so much for all the help and knowledge.

the board in your mechanically stepped hopper is not correct for an 809-B.

the correct board diagram is on https://bingo.cdyn.com/slots/809-B/ and is the w-923-63.png file.  Since it's small enough to post here, it's below.

the bally docs say that payout board was used for the 5,10 and 25c variants of the model, and there's no notes on the diagram indicating any wiring differences.   In this case, the difference between the 809-B denominations is just the frequency of the symbols on the tapes and the corresponding index discs.

the difference in symbols changes the payback percentage of the game, and it's a safe bet that the higher denomination machines have a higher payback percentage.

in any case, you need a payout board that supports the pays on the glass that you have, and hopefully the reels match the glass otherwise you'd have mode work to do.

I don't think you posted a picture of the front of the game with the payouts, but to see if things are consistent, you'd want to:
1] post the payouts
2] find the codes stamped into the slotted reel index discs
3] either uncrimp and pull out the top of each reel tape to see the part number on the underlapped area, or write down the symbols in order starting at the top of the tape.

then the docs can be used to see if your pieces all match up.

the model number on the serial plate is always suspect, but if you do have an 809-ZZB cabinet/reels/glass, it uses the same payout disc as the 809-B.  The docs say it was also available in the same three payback percentages, but not necessarily dependent on denomination.  The casino could decide.

the main differences between an 809-B and an 809-ZZM is the ZZM had a jackpot tower lamp, a service button, a reel 1 snap switch and an electronic door lock.

you could swap hoppers between them with no changes and swap reel mechs with a couple changes to the plug wiring on the reels.

Wolftalk, Thanks for your help. The 645-118 contact disc is spot on with the payouts on the 809B with an exception of the 20 on the disc. I didnt see it on the payout divisions on the machine glass. Thanks, Blaine

I found a 809B electrically stepped Hopper. It has the 645-118 contact payout disc. the only thing is the coin plate and knife is for nickels and not quarters. Wish me luck. This contact says 645-11M but i saw in some post on here where Wolftalk said someone had the same situation and it was a mis printed or something similar to that. Thanks

yeah, it's not an M, it's an 8 with the top and bottom notch etched into the copper incorrectly.

your mechanically stepped hopper picture disappeared?  I don't remember if it was a new style "snow" hopper or the older style like the one you just posted.

if they are both old style, then you'll be able to swap the pinwheel, coin knife, etc. pretty easily.  If the other hopper was new style, the pinwheel is not compatible.

E series machines have circuit boards in them and don't use the payout discs/relays like the EM games did.  If you really have an E series game, you'd want to be over in the "bally reel games" forum topic, not the electromechanical.
