MKV Manuals & Troubleshooting Help - No Screen
« on: March 28, 2018, 05:04:12 AM »
Hey all, not sure if im in the right place, but any help i can get is appreciated.

I acquired a MKV (spring carnival) machine, currently the original screen is dead, but before i go spending a few hundered on replacement parts, i was hoping to test the rest of it.

i have a rgb/cga to vga convertor, but cant get any signal on it, both LED on the power supply light up, and i get 2 red lights on the main board, plus the note acceptor/coin mech seems to work. but thats as far as i get, As for video, on the convertor i get no signal, is this normal? is there a way to test it?

Ok, i think im actually getting somewhere now.
So the crt tube is fine, the neckboard/flyback board is dead, WG u3100 unit will look at a monitor

However its a MKV chassis, with a MK6 board.

i believe that i need a video board of some sort attached to the main board as pictured below?

If that's your board with the QLD chips installed, you will also need a way to hook up or simulate the QCOM protocol otherwise the game will be stuck in a disabled mode when it does finally boot up. Swapping the EPROMs with NSW versions will get around the QCOM stuff as the boards are identical, but you will also need a NSW LAB comms board before those will run.

On a side note, is it possible that the "right" system EPROM (U83) has been wiped over time, given that it's got no label? If one of the base chips is blank it won't even POST.

Just to update on this thread, i ended up getting a known working board, a comms board, hard meters, set that all up, and got a boot loop issue.

I then acquired a whole new machine in parts that is a mk5.2 instead of the 5.1, the parts in that machine boot fine and machine is playable.

Will be doing some further testing/probing on the 5.1 to try get it to work, however im also short of a screen, so if anyone in aus has a LCD and bezel for a MVP/mk5.2 that works, i did get a display from an igt i was going to fit however it shows unsupported.
