The DMD (dotmation animation screen) is attached to the front of the dotmation metal box that is located in the top part of your machine, behind the top glass. Inside that box are 2 circuit boards. The board on the right is the 12 volt DC power supply that operates all of the dotmation stuff. If it dies then the dotmation screeen will go dark. The red lites on the I/O board in the card cage do not monitor this dotmation power supply, so it can be bad and you still get all 5 I/O board red lights on.
To get inside the dotmation box you loosen 2 scews on the top edge of the box. Not necessary to remove these 2 screws, just loosen them a turn or two. Then carefully slide the DMD screen a little to the right, it will come loose from the metal box and you can pull it forward, but it will still be attached by a couple of cables. Unplug the ribbon cable and the power cable, where they both plug into connectors on the back side of the DMD screen. Then carefully set the DMD screen somewhere safe, like on a folded towel. When you look at the bottom edge of the dotmation power supply you will see where the 12 volts is sent over to the other circuit board and to the DMD screen, I think it is a red wire. You can take a meter and see if the 12 volt power supply is working by measuring this voltage. Be very careful not to drop or twist/flex the DMD sceen while you are handling it. A replacement DMD screen can be hard to find and expensive to buy.
