IGT S+ Tournament Machine Questions and Advice
« on: May 19, 2020, 07:32:25 AM »

Hello everyone. I recently came to own (whats seems to me) a IGT S+ Double Diamond machine. This is my first slot machine, and I'd love to have it operating in my game room. I've been researching as much as I can (awesome information on this site and YouTube), and I have run into some issues. This thing looks like it has been gutted of its coin accepting components. My dream for this machine would be for it to run on actual coins (.05 or .25) and physically dispense your winnings when you cash out. If anyone had some tips or suggestions on the following issues that would be awesome:

It appears my SP735 (Type 14) game prom will only allow for tournament play. Can I simply get a new replacement SPxxxx chip? Like a say a SP1311, and will that be compatible with my ST0002 Reel prom?

Do IGT S+ coin comparitors, depending on the coin in the comparitor, work with nickels and quarters?

Can you think of anything I would need to get besides the following to get this machine going, a new SPxxxx (SP1311?) Game Prom chip, "Insert Coin" head, Coin Hopper, and Coin Comparitor? (I have a great neighbor who could weld me a nice coin tray on the front)

Thanks in advance and I'll try to attach all relevant pictures.

If you ever want it to work as original you will need a few items
Reel and game chip( yours are tournament chips)
Coin comparator, backing plate and optics.
Hopper
I have a few of your items but someone else may have it all for you
Place a add in the classified.
By the way your machine is a S machine

By the way your machine is a S machine

That is an early s+ machine.

I agree with sixcardmark -- that is an early S+ machine.

You do not need new chips to operate your machine as a traditional coin-in/coin-out game.  S+ tournament chips contain both the tournament program AND a standard casino program all-in-one.

Your ST0002 chip is also contains the paytable of SS3634, which has a payback of 95.084%.

Unfortunately, I do not have the PSR (Program Summary Report (aka the instruction manual)) for SP735.  The PSR contains directions on how to switch between tournament mode and regular mode.  The closest PSR I can find that supports tournament play is SP830, which I've attached.  There are no guarantees that the settings are identical between your SP735 and SP830, although typically SP chips that are near each other in number have a similar setup.

On the SP830, page zero option 20 enables or disables tournament mode.  Of course, since your machine does not have any coin handling at this time, there's no real benefit to disabling tournament mode, as you won't have a way to add credits to the machine.  If anyone has the PSR for SP735, I'd encourage you to please share it with us.

EDIT: Thanks to Rickhunter uploading the PSR for SP735 in the next post, below, it appears this SP chip only supports tournament play.

Here is SP735

Thanks for posting that, Rick!  I've added it to the downloads section for future use and updated the IGT SP chip list post.  (The librarian in me would ask if you have any of the PSRs for the other 14 on the list that are labeled as "PSR NEEDED" that it would be great if you would like to share those, too!)

Johnnyroc: Based on the PSR that Rick posted, the SP chip in your machine will only run in tournament mode.  While your ST0002 supports both tournament and regular play, the SP735 will only operate in tournament mode.  You will need a SP chip that supports both type 0 and 14 in order to be able to switch between regular and tournament modes.  SP1311 would be a good choice, but any other 10MHz chip (ie. any chip in the list not listed as 16MHz) that supports types 0 and 14 will do.

Thank you Knagl for explaining that for me. In me research I was beginning to expect that I may have that issue with the SP735 chip, so I ordered an SP1311. Quick question, can I just swap out the SP735 for the SP1311, and leave in my ST0002 chip? That’s probably to easy right? Thanks again everyone for your info and help.

You're the best, Rick!  I'm going to work on updating the list right now, and I'll upload those into the downloads section.  Thanks!  :applause:

Yes, you can just swap in the new SP1311 where the SP735 was.  Always make sure the machine is powered off when removing or inserting the MPU board.

You may encounter an error code or two when you put in the new SP chip (61 errors, most likely) -- use this guide to see what the error code means, and how to resolve it.
