Handle Mech Locking up

Hi All - newbie here with a handle mechanism that locks up.


There is a part that if pushed up allows perfect operation, but after a while it moves back in the way and locks the handle in the down position.
I cant see any other part that contacts this bit and no way to secure it out of the way.


On my strike machine, the tab is broken off and it free wheels around, but the handle operation goes off with a real thud.
