S+ with battery leak damage
« on: August 30, 2020, 05:46:30 PM »
Hello,   I picked up this S+ "blackjack" machine this weekend.

Relatively clean, except the main board and socket that it plugs into are damaged.

The machine sat in storage for years, and battery made a mess.

The board itself looks salvageable perhaps

Aside from some cleaning, and replacing the battery, where should I start?

I assume the socket that the main board plugs into is shot.   Is this an item that can be purchased  separately?

Thanks!

The sockets where the MPU (the board on the tray) connects is called the backplane (although some people call it the motherboard).  It should be easy to find, costs depends on condition and where it is at.  I would also probably just purchase a new MPU, the acid damage is probably not worth fixing.  If you post an ad here asking for those two parts, there are site sponsors that keep these parts in stock all the time.  I would start by removing everything on the bottom cavity of the cabinet and remove/sand the rust away and paint it with rust-oleum or something similar to keep the cabinet from rusting any further.  Then install the new backplane and mpu.  Also clean the harnesses that plug into the backplane to remove rust or anything that could potentially short something.

Thanks for the help.  I got a new board from a vendor on the classifieds, and the machine works well.
