IGT S AVP errors and candle flashes
« on: July 17, 2019, 11:23:07 AM »
hello, I apologize if these questions have already been answered. I recently came into an IGT S AVP Red not triple 7’s machine.

It boots up and works great -

However after booting lately it presents three codes that I am unfamiliar with:
Two circular arrows with an “R”
Square box with an “M”
Square box with an “F”

These all clear out after the first game is played.

The top candle however has a slow consistent flash and does not ever clear out.

I’ve also attached some photos for reference.

Immediately after boot up - it displays a full screen message saying “Board Monitor Tilt” which quickly goes away. I’ve read this could mean I need to replace the small battery in the brain. I’ve replaced batteries in other slots, but never an AVP. Do I need to leave the machine on during the change to avoid losing my data?

Thanks for any help.

The "R" is restart, means you restarted the machine.  The F and M are door switch indicators (Front and Main), in your case it means they are closed.  Open would be a white background with black lettering.  The flashing candle means connection to host lost, (SAS host is not responding).  Board Monitor tilt is usually a dirty mpu power cable, there is a known issue with the originally supplied cables, over time the contacts get dirty and loose connectivity.  IGT recommended you either replace the cable or clean the existing one with proper cleaning procedures.

If this machine just came out of a casino, you will probably need to to ekey it and disable SAS host for the machine to play correctly.

Thank you for the quick response!

This machine has been in use at my place for several months and never experienced these issues. The previous owner had it set up on free play/SAS disabled.

I’ll check the cable harness - could you direct me to where I might find this particular harness in the machine so I can clean the contacts?

I’ll also check the battery voltage just Incase as well, as I was not provided with the dongle to load this particular game back in the event all data gets lost.

Thank you!

If you have free play, then you have a TITO board installed.  Does it print tickets and the machine accept them back?  If so the blinking could mean the connection to the tito board is broken somehow (cable loose or power to the tito board loose).  The harness in question is the 24 pin + 4 pin cable that connects the power supply on top of the mpu to the mpu.

Thank you.

The machine does accept and print tickets - and I guess “free play” is a loose term. Essentially if I hit the service button twice, it gives a 100 credit bonus to play with.

Ill check all the mentioned cables.

Thanks for the advice as this machine is a little beyond my Slot Machine knowledge (hoping to expand that).

Also, without having a USB dongle, is there still a way to access the monitor and system menu?

Thank you,

Bryan

Press the test button on the CPU/PCI card. The little white button to the left of the grey ribbon cable. It'll pop up the menu..

I think you mentioned checking battery voltages.. Don't pull them out without having an Ekey, you'd have to set the machine back up.. Plus, the battery voltages are monitored and can be seen in the menu anywho.

Thank you for the info -

Lastly, do you know where I might be able to obtain an EKey for this specific machine?

Thank you!

They pop up on ebay sometimes for about $300. Can post a WTB and pay more if you want, some prices are nuts for them.. But if ya need it...

Thanks again. I’ll keep an eye out for this particular game’s key.

I’m thinking I ultimately do need to replace the battery as when I open the lower door, a new message pops up saying 3.3v out of acceptable range.

So I’ll need to locate a key quickly so I can make the battery swap. I’m guessing that swapping the battery while the machine is on to preserve data isn’t a viable option?

Ekey7 is what you need, or a 3,4,5 set. And actually, I know a dood that took the CPU out, plugged it in with the CPU door off and changed the CPU battery, the 2032.. It worked with the machine ON. Can do that if you're feelin lucky!

Thank you all for the tips, tricks, and info regarding this style of slot.

I’m sure I’ll eventually have more questions - but for now, thank you!
