Flashing Red Light
« on: February 15, 2019, 09:21:21 AM »
I have a s2000 triple red hot 7s with a 1270 board and a r board that is driving me crazy. Sometimes when I turn it on the red light at the bottom of the cpu is flashing and the game wont load. If I turn in on and off a few times it will boot normally. I have swapped the cpu, back plane and checked all the pins on the r board and the cpu. The legs on the stepper and boot chip are all good.
Any ideas as to where to go from here?

Thanks
Bob

Are you still using the Varta battery?

Try reseating the ribbon cable going from the motherboard to the power distribution box behind the coin hopper on both ends.

I tried reseating the ribbon cable, then swapped it from a working machine, same problem. I also swapped the power distribution box.

If you have parts to swap I would try a different power supply

Ok so this morning I swapped the power supply and the backplane again and still have the same flashing red and third from the top amber light. All the other lights on the cpu stay on. I tried another 1270 board with a different r board on it and it is still the same problem.
I've swapped about ever component on the machine and tried disconnecting the bill val and the printer.
Help!

Have you  tried a full clear and ram clear using an RBK00001 chip?

Yes I tried a clear but still have the blinking red light so I can't go any farther with the clear. After trying the clear now I just have the red light flashing. The third light is on with the rest of the lights. I have had all the chips and the r board a number of times checking for bent pins but everything is perfect.

This one is driving me to drink! (not that takes much)

Grasping at straws, but do you have another game/software set that you could try?  Not sure if I/O cards would play into this...

Ok so I ordered a working tested cpu and backplane and still the same problem. I then swapped all the in out boards from a working machine. I tried the clear again with the a rbk00001 and still get the flashing red light.
I'm lost as to where to go from here!

You are putting the RBK00001 chip in the boot socket correct.

Bob, seems like you tried everything, usually when the red cpu LED is on means the processor or software issue, but you replaced all that, so, maybe you have an intermittent start signal for the board. it comes from the power supply (pin 7)  and goes into the backplane board J-13 (pin 6) black wire.  check to see if the wire is loose in either of the connectors. long shot, but the signal is around +5 volts dc.  it can be measured using any metal surface as ground.

Hi Jim
Thanks I checked the black wire at the mother board and I’m getting 6.3  vdc there.
I have the red light and the the first two amber lights flashing if that means anything.

Thanks Jim!
I think you found the problem. After I checked the voltage on the black wire I plugged it into the backplane and tested the voltage again and had the same. I shut the game down and checked the plug for any signs of loose or broken wires, When I turned it back on the lights weren't flashing and I was able to clear the game.
Ill try setting it up tomorrow.
Thanks Again to all that helped me with this problem!
