can't play credits

had a guy send me a s2000 board that  needed a battery   replaced battery  play game for a few day ,
guy get board    can't play off credits I left up on it  why? has red /blue lights flashing on dbv   opening

now he calls me and tells me when door is  close / lock bar  down  left side display goes out  any clues?

Because the credits you left on it don't match with what his motherboard thinks they should be so it probaly needs to be cleared of those credits Unless someone else has a better idea...
It likely would have been ok, except for maybe a crc mismatch error, if the credit count had been at zero

If the VFD goes out while door closed, the harness for the VFD is being pinched most likely.
The machine will not play if the VFD is not communicating with the MPU
I had a motherboard that had bad traces near the netplex connectors causing it to loose the VFD and the machine would leave the player buttons enabled but if I tried to play it wouldn't.

I had a vfd that was missing one of the two screws. When door closed it went out. I put a screw in it and all was good.

funny  you said that I asked the guy to check for  cold solder joint  told hime  to take out 4 screw  he told me the was only 2

Maybe. There are only 2 screws holding it 1 upper on one side and one lower on opposite side

yes 2 screws were ones hold on white plastic  back , when I call him he told me display was back on   told him get a few  new screws and send mpu  so I can do a clear

If he gets the display working he may be able to get the machine to throw the crc mismatch error and get it running without another clear.

Older machines with the separate VFD controller board only have 2 screws in the VFD. Newer machines with the all in one VFD have 4 screws. It would seem to me that the guy could buy a clear and key for about the same it would cost to ship the board back and forth and you wouldn't have to worry about it getting damaged by shipping. I've been using the 2032 battery and holder on 500 series boards for a while now and not only do you not have to worry about people sending the boards back just to change a battery, In a situation like this they could simply pull the battery and cause a partial clear.
