MPU board testing
« on: August 17, 2016, 11:47:10 PM »
Does anyone here do "bench testing" of MPU boards?

Out of my 5 S2000 machines, all of them have 502 boards, except for one.

I went to install the 504 in another machine, (in order to use the enhanced sound). I can't get the board to boot up. When I fire up the machine, all of the LEDs on the front light up. I've tried this in several machines, and still can't get it to work.

The board was working fine before I tried the swap. I can't even get the board to work in the machine I pulled it out of.

What did I do wrong?

Carefully recheck each chip you installed make sure you don't have one in backwards or pins are bent and/or not all in the sockets. Also check the coin battery voltage if the board has been sitting for a while.

I've double and triple checked everything. All chips are installed in the proper locations/directions. No bent legs. The board was working fine...it hadn't been in storage. I just wanted to install it in another cabinet to use with a kit I recently purchased. The board has a brand new 2032 battery installed, it's measuring 3.104 volts.

Doesn't look like you did anything wrong.  I would try swapping out the software just in case something got zapped in the process.

That's odd....

The board is up and running again.

I pulled the chips and while they were out, I cleaned the chip legs w/ some cratex.

Everything is working fine now. Thanks for the help guys.

I read all the posts here but I never did see an answer to the OP's original question. Is there anybody who can bench test a 502 board that may have been damaged by corrosion or heat? I have a board that needs to be looked at and possibly fixed.

I'm an old fart with a young mind. I have an IGT S2000 Double Diamond machine that was once in the Stratosphere in Vegas. Bought from Slot Depot in Fort Mohave, Az. about 2012.

It will cost you more to have a board bench tested and fixed than to buy a known working board.

I have spent a lot of time looking into these board and this problem. With the time involved in diagnosing and repairing these boards combined with the fact that the repair would be prone to failure for someone to offer repair services for these boards is not really cost effective.

Thanks for your thoughts on this. I hate to toss the board that I have but if it's not cost effective to fix or scavenge parts off of it, I'll pitch it.

I have no use for any of the parts. I'm just a user not a fixer. I only wanted to get my machine going again.
