S+ BV Bezel Not Lighting
« on: January 09, 2019, 12:49:03 PM »
I have an S+ game with a WBA 13 bill validator and the BV door bezel will not light.  The BV will accept bills and give credits.  I have swapped the BV light board with another game and it works.  I have checked the 4 connectors behind the cash box, all look good.  I have swapped the bill validator with another game and it lights that game's bezel.  I cannot get the BV light bezel to light in input test 1 #26 either.

I am a little puzzled as the light bezel on the door is a 4 wire connector with four wires and the wires running from behind the cash box to the door is only two wires.  I'm beginning to think the other 2 wires on the BV light board go back to the MPU plugs somewhere.  I always thought only the BV controlled the light not the MPU.  I have not started cutting apart wiring harnesses yet to trace each wire as the game is not mine and I don't want to introduce any additional problems.  Everything else on the game is fully functional, i.e. buttons, reels, switches, hopper, coin comparitor, etc.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

are the light bulbs good?
is this an up grade or factory installation?

the two pin connector that goes out to the door carries a status signal form the bill unit. it is a +5vdc signal, it is polarity sensitive.

the other two wires carry the 7vac to light the bulbs when the status signal is sent.

four wires:
pin1=7vac hot  blue wire
pin2=7vac common green wire
pin3-status+ red/blue
pin4=status- green/blue.

7vac is on one side of the lamps all the time, when the bill unit sends the status signal it triggers an opto isolator and fires the transistor to provide a ground to lite the bulbs.

Hope this helps

Jim

Thank you Jim this helps immensely.  Yes the bulbs are good as I swapped with another game.  It appears to be a factory installation as the other three S+ look identical in that regard and they are as I remember from my casino days as an attendant.

The only puzzle still in my mind is the two wires, black and red, coming out from the connector behind the cash box and over into the door harness are smaller gauge wires than where they end up at the connector at the light board.  There must be a connector in the door harness somewhere where they meet up with the two larger 7 vac wires to form the 4 wire connector at the light board.  All 4 wires on that light board connector are the same size.

Thank you again and now that I know the pin voltage and pin status polarity I will check that when I am able to return to the owner's home in a few days and hope I don't have to open up that harness.
