Casino floors in the us
« on: July 18, 2014, 07:03:58 PM »
One thing that I have found interesting esp. in the last 6-7 months is casinos are pulling "house games" out  that they own.  Some of these are a blast from the past.  Plenty of s-2k,even some s-6000 etc. And you know what they were playing the sheet out of them.  I think filling holes for the big dollar lease games.  My area has all the latest and greatest but I think some are tired of the lease etc.  Don't get me wrong they all have s-2k on the floors,  Instead of selling out of their warehouses SOME are digging back out on multiple makes and models and doing well and it is enjoyable.  Just something I noticed.

Yep! We've seen some casinos in Reno, NV in the past year or so that are going back to Coin-In/Out machines...nothing like hearing the "CLANK" of coins hitting the tray! Mostly dollar machines, but who cares! Adds a little sound, to what has seemingly morphed into a very quiet gaming floor...kind of refreshing actually. Nothing like walking in a totally silent casino...it's kinda creepy! We have a local Indian casino that's so quiet you could hear a pin drop. It's like walking into a dead zone!

Yes, I agree,  Some are working both of the best worlds in now and it is quite exiciting and just plain out out neat.  I thought it was anyway and the players did as well as what I have been seeing--refreshing.

  • The only way to beat the casino is to own it.

The casinos have two problems
1. WAPs (Wide area Progressives) - you can go to any property and play.
2. Lease games - same game different casino.
On the flip side MGM has "Lions Share" an old S+ that has never hit. Standalone progressive 2.3mm and growing. Has up to 20 people standing in line to play.
Strip Casinos are all themed different to bring people in.... but seriously what is on the Belagio floor that isn't on the floor in a casino in PA ??  if you want people to gamble you need to have a draw and giving them the same old same old - isn't going to keep them there.
If you can't afford to lose you can't afford to win.

During the late 80's and early 90's a lot of casino had custom made themes based on a Bally Blazing 7's.  Most notably the Majestic Lion theme in the MGM Grand (which are still there, but now only have $1, $2 and $5 denoms, they used to have quarter denom).  These machines get a lot of play and you notice that the progressives get hit all the time as you rarely ever see any over $1,150 after it resets to $1,000 after each hit.  I always play a couple of hudred on them and break even or come ahead bit most of the time I play them.  Caesars's palace had (or has, not sure) Roman Rewards, the Luxor, the New York/New York, and the Monte Carlo also had custom themes, but I can't remember what they were called.  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

As I had said earlier in July from observations a lot of the casinos are mixing high end games with older vintage games.  All about the take on the floors.  They are appealing to all the age diff. crowds is what I would think.  I go to one casino that has 3,000+ just slots in it, so they mixed it up and many others have done the same.  Digging out of storage that they did not sell to brokers etc.  Some are glad they didn't.  These are full-blown class III non-indian casinoes doing this.  All about the $ and appeal.
