Reels Disconnected error troubleshooting
« on: April 02, 2020, 06:11:48 PM »
Newbie at slot troubleshooting so bare with me please :EmoticonHelp4: Trying to get my machine up and running again with corrosion on the original board (7551050) I changed to a new mpu (7570390) changed out the game chips (SB000026, SG000011).

I followed the instructions on running the clear chip IVC00097 but the BOTTOM 2 yellow lights lit and NOT the top 2 was the first issue I came across.

I put the Stepper Base chip back in got back to the Close the Main Door and did so and got CALL ATTENDANT>Reels Disconnected>CLOSURE M>RESTART came up on the display. So I reset the reels multiple times and even changed them out with my other machine and still same message. I changed out the back motherboard (Came with my new mpu) thinking that might be the issue but the same message!! Along with that message the bottom yellow light on the mpu is flashing.

What's the next step anyone???

Can you tell us exactly what you specifically did, in detail, when you say this part that I highlighted in red?

I took the reels out and put them back in.  I put them back in order 1-2-3 and out of order as well. I also disconnected the plug that goes to the mother board for the reels. I tried using the reels fror machine as well. They were the back lit reels where the ones in the machine with issues are not but still same result. I then did the clear chip again and that process with same result.

I'll be honest with you, it sounds like the reel board up on the back wall behind the reel tray is shot or not connected somehow.

I hope you never changed anything accidentally with the power on?

That would blow out stuff.

Have you tried a different harness perhaps?

Maye it's just a broken wire in the harness?

Stop Clear chipping...that doesn't do anything to help you with this problem...

You need to swap with a known good MPU or known good reel harness to pinpoint the problem in the problem cabinet.

Keep things simple...

Try to get the non-backlight reels working first that doesn't require that extra I/O board (The i/o on the MPU tray wall) and harness.

sorry i'm truly not an expert but he changed the MPU to a 3902 from a 500 series board. Then later changed the motherboard. would that have caused a problem?

Not really unless there's a problem with that MPU but I did notice that he has an SB000026 installed.
That means he has the S2000 Vision Balloon Bars game installed and the machine has a topbox LCD unit that requires specific CF cards as well to work.

He also has the pair of SG000011's as well...personally I've never used those SG pairs for a Vision-based machine and I don't have any documentation on hand for those SG's although he states that this machine has worked in the past.

3902 board is for a game king, it will not even work in a s2000.  A 500 series board can use same motherboard as 3902 board though.

I always make sure the power is off and usually unplug the machine if changing out the motherboard for example.

Not sure what you mean on the reel board on back wall? I have the power supply behind the reels and the motherboard on back wall behind mpu but see no other boards?? There is the meter board over on the right side with the counters.

I have no other wiring harness but will take this one out and see if I can see any issues visually.

The game worked fine for years and then it sat for about 16 months and wouldn't work when I set it back up. I contacted the place I got it from and tracked down corrosion all around the varda battery and they recommended to change the mpu and that is what they sent. They haven't been helpful with these problems so that's why I've been searching for help and found this site. I thank you for all the help and advise you give!!

If this is the wrong board (which was recommended) what board would I need?

Pictures of the new board I've been trying to use and the old board that worked before.

That is wrong board.  You need a 500 series board. (like your old one)

Since that is a vision machine with no backlit controller or multimedia board you can use a 502 board.  I have one (tested) if you want it. PM sent.

The original board does not look that bad.
Try putting the chips back in and installing it.
Tell us what the video display on the door says.
I'm thinking dead coin battery in top box for starters.
Also measure the voltage of the coin battery on your old board it needs  to be above 2.9v. As far as the Varta battery goes carefully just snap that off of the board it is not needed.

I agree. Varta leakage usually damages the door circuit causing open door.

That's the exact issue I was having on the old board. It would only go to "Please Close Main Door" and would never clear from there. There was some corrosion on the right side of the varda battery. I tried cleaning it with electronic cleaner and a toothbrush but still only would get to the "Please Close Main Door" message and not any further. That's what lead me to getting another board unfortunately looks like the wrong one at that.

Also the coin battery is dead as I just tested it and barely got a reading. I didn't bother replacing it after I was told to just replace the board.

Probably worth a shot a dead coin battery gives all kinds of errors including your original reels disconnected.
There is also a coin battery inside the top box LCD that should be replaced also.
