IGT S+ Troubleshooting - Replace Board?
« on: April 18, 2020, 04:08:46 PM »
Picked up this IGT S+ this weekend on facebook for $100. Power cord was damaged and i replaced. Machine currently starts up and lights.

Board looks pretty bad.. Wondering if should i order a new board and transformer for it. Thoughts?

It sure looks like toast but who knows? It might work if you put a battery on it.
Quality doesn't cost. It pays.

Check your bottom mother board. Acid like that usually runs all over it too.

I don't have any but at least they are obtainable. S2000 50x boards are getting very scarce. Therockinelvis brings up a good point. Your mother board may be damaged too.

Make sure you get an S+ 10Mhz MPU and tray with a transformer for your S+ machine....not an S2000 MPU.

Any guidance how to take the bottom board out? I removed the screws, but there are pegs in the corner that crosses in them. do they unscrew?

I use a flat blade screw driver and go under it to lift at each corner. Did it have acid damage on it too?

Ok thanks, i attached some pictures for you to see.. Now every time i start the machine the 8 amp fuse blows for the wheels.. they start moving slowly then pops.. I only have 5 amp fuses.. waiting on shipment of new ones to arrive.. curious if i try a 5 would it pop automatically too? im assuming a short on the board somewhere

Why are you turning the machine on? The acid damage on that board is crazy. Get it out of there and use a vinegar solution on the cabinet to kill the acid

The power supply requires 3 fuses:

6amp

8amp

6amp

Use only quick blow fuses.

That motherboard is finished.

Place a WTB (Want To Buy) ad in the Classifieds section of NLG and a member will have some boards for you much cheaper than ebay.

Aight update after cleaning both boards..

Machine boots up.. no fuses blown any longer, stiff wheels (but never spin). No error codes. Candle stick is slow flash on top fast on the bottom (door open) never changes opened or closed.
Molex plug to backplane board looks clean as well.

Thoughts on next steps..

Pay no attention to the candle. Only let casino know door has been opened. Are the displays working?  Did you get all the plugs back in? Did you install your chips correctly with the notches in right direction? If that board works, it will surprise many of us.

Displays are not work at all.. Chips are in the correct spots. i was going to meter out power supply next.
