Suggestions on what to buy (video slot machine)
« on: May 04, 2020, 12:12:48 PM »

I want to buy a video slot machine.  Hopefully with multiple games or one that where the games can be switched out easily.  I was thinking Gameking but I want newer slot games.  I already have a poker machine so I don't need poker and don't care about Keno so I think a Gameking is out.

What do you think I should get?

IGT SMLD,  G20 or G23 with show bios.  It will allow you to load a LOT of games and easily switch within a menu context.  If you do go this route and you get either a G20 or G23, make sure it has the multi-level display for greatest flexibility as they are also available with a regular monitor.

All other popular platforms like WMS and Bally require game changes (for the most part) whenever you want to switch games.  It is not a complicated procedure, but it can take around 10 mins or so to change a theme.  On the IGT AVP platforms listed above, all the games are loaded into the hard drive/SSD and you easily switch using a menu.

I would say though, that the WMS and Bally (especially Alpha 2) offer better games than the IGT does, but the flexibility of the IGT platform would outweigh that for most people.  I personally prefer WMS or Bally games, but I'm so used to changing games that it is not a big deal for me, but everyone is different.

There are various different options out there but you'd definitely need to have a set checklist.. for example:

-Budget (main one ! )
-idea of games youd like to play (themed, non-themed, table games)
-size of machine (shipping costs can add up!)
-manufacturer of choice (WMS, IGT, Bally, ETC.)

If anyone else thinks of anything feel free to add it. I personally think WMS is the best bet as they are easy to handle. Bally's have some great games as well.  :cool_thumb_up:

I don't want to spend a lot of money <$1000? I'm sure those mentioned above are more.
Size doesn't matter here  :)) (well at least not a full standing one like those with a chair attached (like Game of Thrones). But an upright should be fine.
I like to play quite a bit of different games in the casino from various manufacturers so a machine where I can swap games (of the same brand of course) is what I am looking for I guess.

BB2 for the win. $1000 should get you a nice clean one with bright buttons and fully functional. A bunch of cool games for it that are cheap.

I like the shape (curved screen) of the newer platforms and the colorful side lights. WMS wins out here.
A Bally GameMaker is always a good choice.

Thanks.  Like the IGT poker machine I have, changing the games requires just changing all the appropriate eprom chips?

WMS software comes in CF cards and a dongle if it requires it instead of eproms. You'd also need a CF card for a RAM clear before changing it.  You insert the CF cards directly into the CPU. As Rick mentioned above as well, the G20's and G23's also have quite the variety of games to pick from and easy to change from. Sometimes you can load many into single machine.

WMS uses CF cards. Easier menu and setup in my opinion. - The pic is of a BB2 I sold here. Wish I had more for ya, only have blades at the moment and those are a little more and games are more expensive.

Multigame wise the IGT SMLD is the way to go. A little more than a BB2, need an Ekey which is $300 and they are a more advanced machine to own..

I would go with the IGT SMLD.  Can hold up to 100 games, and never gets old with so much content.  Also, very affordable.  You may be able to purchase one from a member here, already loaded up with games.

Do they do poker as well ???

Nice that there are no glass kits to buy - long term ownership is less $$ that way.

Yep. GK8.3 with a sprinkle of Ultimate X and a dash of your favorite slot games mixed in.

You don't change games like you do you on the older gameking platform.  You install the games into a hard drive and once they on the drive, you enable them and they become part of the menu where you select the games.  It is very easy and intuitative.

You can install a Gameking set as your base and then install the slot games you want, it all blends in kind of nicely.

Is that a reply to my question or Jay's?

To both.  Jay asked if it played poker games and you asked if changing games was like your current game where you replace eproms.  There are no eproms to replace, all software is stored on a hard drive, once they are installed on the hard drive they are there until you delete them.  While they are there, they are playable by simply selecting them from a menu after they have enabled in a simple setup process.
