The last item I could ask you to check would be the wiring of the cash out switch, if it is wired wrong then it would cause the problem you are having.  It is wired opposite of all the other switches! the yellow/orange wire should be on the N/C contact,  if you notice all the other switches have this contact open.

Jim, I'll check this, but it used to work fine, and I definitely haven't re-wired the switch since then... so I'm pretty confident that is isn't the problem.  But thanks so much for still trying to help!

rickhunter, thanks for your help too!
From you last post, I've been trying to change that 8  2, but never have t lt spin button that will work to change it.  And is seems like my machine does not have the same menu as yours, seems very strange.
For me, it only takes 2 presses of the test button to get to that point, and then use turns of reset key to get to the other settings.

I was able to change player initiated credit to 5  1 so that the cash out button can be used to select pays going to credit, or from hopper (I've been keeping that in 5  0  to always have wins go to credit).
With that set 5  1, I then tried playing and inserting bills, but the bills always pay from hopper - whether the cash out is lit or not.

So, still stuck where I was.  At least I get the correct 4 quarters now in the tray instead of 100!

I don't think I've tried yet to change the 8  2 (that I'm stuck on now) to 8  1 (to force bills to credit)  - while I have the SET15 chip in... I'm going to try that in a bit.

Thanks again for the help!

I have the exact same SP chip as you, there absolutely no reason why your slot would behave differently.  I don't know why you can't change the option, I've never seen that happen before.  Also the setchip 15 does nothing other than set denom and enable the validator.  You cannot change anything else.

See if it will let you change the 8 2 setting now that you changed the 5 0 to 5 1.

Yep, I realized that’s all I could do with set15.
And I went through 2 cycles of turning BV off, then back on, trying to change the 8 2 each time.  No luck.

I think now I’ll get a set of clear chips and start all from scratch.
Recommendations for where to get clear chips?

Thanks!

I have a similar issue - I can't get the 8-2 to change with the SPIN REELS button; my machine also dispenses the coins when a bill is int=serted (I want it to just give credits).

I unsoldered the battery and re-soldered it to try to "start from scratch" a little, but that didn't work either.  I have a 1996 build Red, White and Blue S+ - 5 coin, .25 machine.

Did you have any success getting your machine to give credits instead of coins>

oops, I forgot to post the latest a few days ago...

I got a RAM Clear Chip, went through that process, then used the SET Chip again to enable the BV, and
      IT WORKS!
As far as I can tell everything is working perfect now.
Thanks for the help!

There's a first time for everything, I had never seen that kind of thing before.  I guess something got corrupted in CMOS and wouldn't let you change it?  Just speculation at this time.  Glad you got it going.

Well, I found the resolution to my machine.  The machine is "new to me" and i was completely unable to change anything to get the bill validator to do anything other than dispense coins.  I could play on credit and change option 5 to anything, but never the 8 option; it was locked at 2.

I was perusing the site and found the flash cards file:///C:/Users/earln/Downloads/S%20Plus%20Diagnostic%20Cards.pdf .  I noticed on Card 16 that it mentioned dipswitch 4 was either for fast/slow play or bill validator puking coins out or allowing credit; it varied depending upon the software version.  I switched the switch, and voila!  I was able to change the 8 setting and now inserting a bill gets you credits instead of coins!!

And, looking through this again, I missed Sixcard's suggestion to look at the darn dipswitch!   :duh:  I guess I need to read the posts a little (a LOT) better!

Damn!  I thought you tried that.  It should not have an effect like Jim said but it does.  There are certain SP's that do use dip4 to turn the BV into a fricken change machine and I guess it's just left over from rewrote programming. Actually it was Jim who told me to try dip 4 a few years back when I had the same thing happen to me.  Glad everything is working.
