S plus manual needed
« on: July 19, 2020, 07:46:59 AM »
I am also new to the forum and found this old thread on battery. I have a IGT S+ machine (model: b5031CFIW) which works very well. It was manufactured in 1994 according to the model plate and we bought it in 2003 at an auction. Never had to replace the battery - yet. We don't use the machine often except when we host parties and all money put into the machine by our guests  goes to charity - except one time when a guest hit a jackpot ()(**#$@)($*@) ! And that cost me a bunch. The machine is mostly unplugged.

Question: Would someone let me know how/where I can acquire a service manual for this machine? I want to run through the test codes to set hopper limits, etc. and configure the machine the way I want. I also want to buy a proper battery replacement to have on hand. I have avoided doing any code setting like this because of no information on how.
Thanks!

The manual won’t tell you most of that.....

There are two chips in your machine. One is called the game chip and the other is the reel chip.
The reel chip would be better called the theme chip. It’s the one that makes your machine a 2 coin double diamond or a 3 coin balloon bars etc.... it’s behavior, and what %% the machine pays out is described in what is known as a PAR sheet. PAR = Paytable and Reel. We have a summarized collection of these online - see Ricks FAQs on the bottom right of our home page and go to the IGT Game bible. It will help if you know the chip number and then there are in instructions To get that as well.

The settings (Hooper limits, reel sounds, etc)  are Controlled by the game chip. Depending on what game chip you have the settings are different. The sheet that describes these controls is called a PSR. Program summary report. These are not themed based, but are based on Type. A Type 0 game (no special features like nudge or haywire) May work across many themes but a 1271 chip is vastly different from a 731 as it supports progressives and has many more accounting items than the Older generation. There are probably 30 or more different type 0 chips. Certain themes (reel chips) work best with certain game chips and the combination support music when a win is made.

We created a Master PSR callled Rons Simplified S+ sheets (or something like that) in excel and can be found in our downloads section.

Both the game bible and Rons simplified are great quick references but it’s always good to have the actual PSR and PAR documents. Once you know the chip numbers there is a thread for “looking for” and some kind member can email you docs if your profile is up to date with your email address.

Back to the manual it’s a good mechanical and electronic repair guide but has lite to  nothing about changing the settings.

I was able to find most everything technical right here within this great forum !!!   I've replaced my battery,  had to reset the machine a couple of times, etc.  There are links to how to do about anything you would need right here,  just a matter of doing a search and finding it.

I did order a full service manual for my machine,  but it was years ago.  I'm sorry but I don't recall where I purchased it from.  I'm pretty sure it was on eBay.   I just checked,  there are plenty of choices for the manual on eBay now.

As we don't play the machine much, and it's in our finished basement game room,  after hitting a full blown jackpot,   I turned it off,  leaving it with the jackpot still showing.   Haven't touched it in the past 18 months.

Thanks for replying! I am looking forward to learning more about this machine so I can keep it running. As a 'newbie' it is still somewhat of a mystery to how this works, but I'm technical and can figure it out (e.g. soldering electronics/repair no issue for me).
Right now the bill validator is crumpling bills I put in when it goes to return. "new" bills it will accept (dollar bills), but if I put in a fairly used bill, it will try to return it and gets stuck. I suspect the belts are worn. Is there a way to buy replacement belts? I can't seem to find belt only replacements.

I'm not sure - It is installed next to the hopper and looks like this one:https://www.worldwide-gaming.com/s/images/JCM%20DBV-200%20XPORT%20WEB%20SM.jpg
o.k. - just checked the model number: DBV-145-ss
