Gold Rush 6000 For A Newbie, Pics... and Lighting Issues
« on: July 30, 2020, 07:28:58 AM »
So, I have absolutely zero experience or knowledge on slot machines.

I just got this machine and started reading here on the forum as well as downloaded a manual for S6000.

First thing I noticed were a few bulbs out which isnt a big deal and helps me get to know my way around the machine as I replace them.

The player card slot part does not light up or power at all and I figure its been disabled or the hardware has been removed.

Everything else seems to work fine except the fact it will not accept its own print tickets, spits them back out after about 10 seconds.

Any help and guidance would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi, congrats and welcome!

You're in good shape given what you mentioned, the Bally games won't accept tickets unless connected to a host (or you install the Ticket In/Out device discussed here on the forum).  They also can be wonky about printing tickets at cash out, although there are different mains that do enable that (can find here on the site as well).

Best to read through all the sticky notes here in the Bally section, but compared to most purchases, sounds like you're already good to go!

BTW, I like the Gold Rush kit, have one for my 5000+.  Nice to have that 3rd reel "multiplier", makes things interesting.

Ya, I have started reading a lot... There is LOTS to read.

Mine does print tickets for cash out and the bill reader says "INSERT BILL OR TICKET HERE" so I was assuming it would work...

Tickets need a validation host for the machine to accept the tickets.  You will need to install a tito board (Like Bettor Tito or similar) and use the tickets printed with that system installed.  The ones you have printed so far cannot be used.

Get in touch with jim at bettor slots. I just got my 3rd TITO from him. I had a small issue and walked me thru it. He is a great guy and now I’m enjoying my machine more!!

I appreciate all the replies and help!

Surprisingly no where in the manual states exact bulb replacement numbers.

I was on a gaming website that sells parts looking around and noticed the bulbs they have for sale under the Bally 6000 section and the bulbs that came out of my machine are different.

How important is it to have the exact spec bulbs?

Anyone have a complete bulb list for this machine?

Thanks

That's a  Bally 6000. If Jim doesn't have a TITO for your machine,  Brian , bhinkley has them.

So I got some new bulbs, and it doesnt seem like that fixed the problem.

If I turn them slowly I can get them to flicker sometimes..

EDIT: I got all the bulbs to stay on (for now) except the reel bulb. It will flicker the odd time if I turn it slowly but I cannot get it to stay on.

I thought maybe it was a bad starter, so I swapped the 2 and had the same outcome. I guess I have to replace the reel bulb assembly?

Is there anything else it could be?

The reel fluorescent tube is a different wattage than the upper award glass and lower belly glass fluorescent tubes. So the  starter for the reel glass fluorescent tube can't be swapped.  Buy a new starter of the proper wattage for the reel glass fluorescent tube.

I see this now that you pointed it out that there are two different starters in there.

Do you know which side is for which?

If the starter was bad would it still flicker though?

Thanks

The award and belly bulbs I have replaced with F15T8/CW and the reel bulb is F8T5/CW... Correct?

I ordered new Phillips S2 starters which say it runs 4-22w.

Shouldn't this work for both? I believe the award and belly glass bulb is 15w and the reel bulb is 8w.

Thanks

You could also purchase the FSU starters which are universal for any size bulb.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

Pretty sure thats what the Phillips S2 is... Universal and good for any bulb 4-22w.

I've replaced these already and the light wont stay on...

Its not the bulb. Its not the starter.

I guess I need a new lighting assembly for the reel?

Note: I can only get it to flicker when I am turning into its place.
When its properly seated in its position it does nothing.
This is also the case with the award section bulb, but I found a "sweet spot" and got that one to stay on. But when I turn the machine off and on, the bulb wont light up on its own. I have to manually twist it by hand to get it back to the "sweet spot" again to stay on... Kind of annoying.

The other conclusion is the lamp ballast is defective.

Getting all these lights to work is starting to be a PITA.

This is what the reward bulb does when properly seated (Pic Attached).

I can get it to stay on only when NOT properly seated in a "sweet spot" when turning it slowly that will not light up when switched on/off.

Also, the reel bulb when properly seated will only flicker.

The starters and ballast are behind the bracket seen in the picture.
www.slotmachinerepair.com sells some ballasts under "specialty items".

You solved one of my issues, I never knew there was a starter and ballast in the award section mounted behind the bulb housing.

Replaced the starter and now that one is good!

Also appreciate the link to order parts.

Thank you very much!!!
