Hey guys trying to get my 25c denomination window to light. Socket and bulb are good.

There is no power getting to the Blue and gray stripped power wire. I am guessing that the driver transistor went bad.

There is continuity for the connector to the socket so its not a wire or connector issue.

I reworked the lamp board header pins while trying to figure this out.

Its the only bulb on the door not working.

Would anyone know which transistor it would be and and what location?

I dont have a manual and Im not sure if the schematics would be in it.

Thanks

Eddie,   your problem has to be on the motherboard, or wiring?  since the insert coin and coin accept lamps work, and the denomination lamp does not, then the only thing that would cause this would be no ground coming from the motherboard. all three lamps use the same 7vac, each receive a ground from different places.  the denomination ground is Bground. the bground signal is everywhere on the motherboard, it is on one side or resistor R4 on the motherboard, the other side of R4 goes directly to the display board from pin 35 of J-1, a blue wire with a white tracer.  this lamp comes on as soon as power is applied to the machine.  either R4 is open or your have a broken wire or bent pin on a connector.  easy to troubleshoot,  using a meter, put it on the ohms scale, zero the meter, place one lead on the metal chassis, now touch the other probe to each side of R4, on one side you should get zero ohms, now move the probe from the metal chassis and place it on the other side of R4, you should read around 4 ohms,  now move one probe to the pads of the denomination lamp, should read either zero ohms or 4 ohms.

Hope this helps

Jim first off thanks for the reply.

I tried all that you said and had no readings at all close to what you suggested they should be?

I pulled the mother board out and reworked all the connector pins and tested the resistors that deal with the Door lighting and all read the same value.

I tested continuity from the door connector to the Mother board and there were no breaks

The Header pins were all fine.

I get 6.0 volts on both lower tabs of the insert coin and denomination sockets.

IF I run a jumper from pin 2 of the lamp board header to the Denomination socket I get it to light?

I checked all the continuity on the lamp board and reworked the header pins on that board as well.

This should be so simple yet the issue remains.

Pulling the lamp out of the socket and turning it around and pushing it back in....might work.

I know why none of the things didn't  come close to what they should have been,  I made an error in reading the schematic (didn't have my glasses)  I saw a 4 there and assumed it was R4,  actually the resistor is R3, and on the schematic it shows it being a 4 ohm resistor, according to the drawing it is actually listed as 3.9 ohms.  So if you do the checks on R3 you should find you problem.

another thing you can try, pull the board out, take a piece of wire, hold one end to the metal chassis and touch the other end to each side of R3,  one side should light the bulb,if you try the other side of the resistor and it doesn't light it then the resistor is open.

Sorry for the confusion.

Jim no need to apologize for trying to help .Thank you.

I recently replaced the R3 resistor as the origianl one burned out and it was working fine.

I tested it when I had the board out last night along with the other 3 resistors and they all seemed fine.

Ill try your idea of jumping the R3 resistor and get back to you with the results.

Just for clarity the game does play ??

A common issue for the S+ denomination light not to come on is that the mother board (the small fixed board not the removeable MPU) has a loose or burned molex connector. This is the large molex in the cener of the motherboard, and is a major connection to the power supply. The symptom beyond the lamp not coming on is that the game does not play, the reels are loose when powered up, but all other lights and such look fine.

Game plays beautifully. No connectors are burned. I did replace one about 6 months ago when I did the first rework of the mother board as a connector was burned.

All lights worked until just about last week when I noticed that the denomination light was out.

Couldnt have been just a burned bulb or loose socket that would have been to easy lol

OK' First I tried  jumping  a ground from the cabinet to the bottom tab of the lamp socket and... Let there be light!

I then did the R3 resistor test with the ground jumper and only one side lit the lamp.

I guess R3 failed again!

What is the correct value? 3.9 or 4 Ohms?

Doesn't matter,  3.9 0r 4 ohms   1/2 watt type resistor     remove the resistor and ohm it out, put the leads across the resistor and read what it is.  either high resistance or open.   what are the color bands on the resistor ?

Jim I just replaced it with the 3.9 ohm resistor OWBG  and no change.

Have you checked the physical wires before they go to the door.
30+ years of opening closing of door can take a toll on wire.

OK Im a dope! I replaced the original burned out R3 resistor with what was on the board.

That is the resistor that I just now replaced again.

Turns out it was the WRONG Value! I tested the new resistor which matched the burned resistors banding and its 390 ohms! not 3.9

So whoever first worked on the board made a mistake and I just assumed it was the correct ohm resistor.( I had no schematics.)

Not only that, I guess I never noticed the denomination light was out until just the other day. Duh.

I just ordered 3.9 1/2 watt resistors.

Ill give a follow up when the correct resistor arrives and I install it.

Let there be light!

The new resistor arrived and once installed the denomination window is now lit again!

Thanks all for your input.

I really looked dumb on this one.

Excellent, now you need a new coin sticker and a bright white LED.

I think your right. I did install LEDS in the buttons a few years back and LEDs in the Door windows but the LEDs in the door windows burned up the MPU .

I was told by the vendor of the LEDs that it was something that he was aware of happening but didnt post it on his site. I dont remember which components on the MPU burned.

That was when LEDs were first being made for slot machine bulb replacements.

Maybe the new LEDs dont have this problem can you recommend Leds for the Door lamp sockets?

I use LEDs in my pinball machines and my clients.
