Bally E2000 need help
« on: August 13, 2020, 06:15:39 PM »
I have a Bally E2000 series that when I turn in on immediately throws up an error 71 and according to the error codes in the book it has to do with the reel #1 reader not getting a consistent reading. It was adjusted correctly but always comes up. I replaced the #1 reader and get the same result. Also when you play it the first and third reel just keep spinning. I ran the test #2 and the index coils are working ( I pushed the stop levers back and they popped into place when the test came to them)
Checked and reseated all plugs etc. What else, if anything would cause the error 71 when the game starts up. Also while I am trying to work it I get an error 81 which I do not see in my manual. If you can offer some thoughts I would appreciate it.

thank you,
Larry

71 would be the first reel not indexing properly.  My guess would be either the wiring from the reel reader to the real decoder board or the decoder board itself.  I would verify each individual wire has continuity on the harness, if all do, then I would replace the decoder board.  Even if it is testing out fine, it could still be getting an intermittent failure on the decoder board that is causing it to throw the code and tilt out.

Thanks, is the decoder board the one mounted on the reel mech behind the front plate? I think this slot is using the alternate codes where 71 is the door open. I am getting an 81 -2 code and the first and third reel do not stop

thanks

hi as it turns out this slot is using alternate codes....71 is door open.. I don't know how to change it. So for now I will have to use the current codes. Would the decoder board prevent the reels from stopping if not working properly? Reel 2 is the only one that locks in. the others just keep going until I get an error 42

I will keep studying the documents I have If you can give me any direction on where to look for the non stopping reels I would appreciate it. I get an error 42 if I let them spin.

IF THE COILS WORK TO ENGAGE TO THE REELS DURING THE TEST....why would they fail to work during normal play??

thank you

It could be the kick or arm switch on the side of the reel mech is bad or their related IC is bad on the I/O board.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

thanks Badbaud for the response. I felt that if the arms would kick in properly when in the test that the same circuits (ICs) would be used so I would assume (I know I should not do that) that the circuit is good  as I would think all the circuits involved would be the same in normal operations and the test #2. The arm and kick switches did test good but I will check them again Reel #2 always works. The service manual I have just does not cover this problem. I normally only work on mechanical and electromechanical slots but I want to learn more about these and other systems. My manual shows that on the I/O board Q6 is Reel 1 Q5 is Reel #2 and Q4 is Reel #3
How do I check them?

thanks for the help

Had you checked the latch paws to make sure they are moving freely on the cross shaft? That is the silver part that is in contact with the solenoids plungers. They should move freely and that shaft should spin freely When you grab it between you thumb and finger.

Test 2 will fire off the reel coils one at a  time - test 3, and manually triggering a reel spin, will show the codes for the arm then kick switch.

try this,  since #2 is firing and locking in the reel to stop, use this as a reference. push in the solenoid plunger using you finger, get a feel for what it takes to push it in, now do the same to #1 and #3,  I'll bet they are harder to push in and probably a little sluggish,  clean the areas that the plunger moves on and lubricate all the moving and sliding parts with a 3-1 oil, or similar.  hopefully this will fix your problem,  also do it to #2 as well.

Well, I checked the battery and it was completely dead. Had a battery that came with a kit and I replaced it. The slot ran all 3 reels stopped and paid out 2 quarters then that was it. Now it just plays a sound and over and over with no error other than the door open error. After changing the battery is there anything else that must be done.
my slot is using SDS codes so door open is 71. This error stays on the display with no others displayed. The sound playing is not the door open sound and is continuous. I did lube the mech.

OK, now it did work and I got an "Error 81 which is a Spinning after indexing error with SDS codes. Bad Reader?? The board in the slot on the mech is AS 2983-2 and I have an earlier board AS 2983- This one has an extra row of plug pins on the bottom. Can I try this board in place of the board I have installed now? Changed the reader board and same result.

thanks

ok, things are starting to work properly, but right now I insert coin, pull handle and it keeps spinning with a 41 error which is IMPROPER SPIN (REEL held, ETC) Reel #1. The reel is spinning freely and is triggering normally. The reader was changed, The reader was cleaned before installing. Could this be the Reel board mounted to the inside front of the mech? I do not have a spare to check this so where could I get this if its the problem. I have an earlier version but not sure if I can use it.

Any Ideas??

thanks
Larry

You can try swapping the reel reader with a different reel. Say 1 to reel 3 and see if the problem follows that reader. Just remember that there are two different reel readers. One has a small light bulb, that’s the early version, the the other uses infrared. They are usually marked 5V on a sticker.

Good day everyone, I removed the board on the reel mech (reel decoder board) and found that it was butchered up by someone who was trying to repair it. They removed all 3 IC's and put in sockets and in the process actually ruined the board. Bought a replacement board from KLar and now the slot is working great.

Thanks everyone, and I just wanted all to know what I found
