Bally E-2000 series
« on: October 04, 2020, 12:38:59 PM »
I apologize if I am posting in the wrong section. I recently acquired a Bally 25 cent 2 line E-2404 if I am correct. The unit will power up. At first it would only reject the quarters. As I have read and tried several things the unit went on tilt. I removed the hopper and checked the power supply behind and it seemed to fix that problem. Now it will accept coins but only to the bucket in the cabinet below. Not the coin hopper. The switch to guide them to the hopper is open. I can manually bypass the handle switch and get the reels to spin but only freely. The code on the win meter shows (..0.0.0.6.) at times I can hear something clicking inside and win meter displays .3.0.0.0.6 in correspondence with the clicking. At times while clicking noise occurred it’s a Zeros on meter. Any and all ideas and direction are much appreciated in advance.

Go to www.slotmachinerepair.com and the "Helpful PDF's" section and download the free E-Series service manual there.
It will explain the error codes you are getting.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

the 6 code is a power issue - recheck your power supply - look for burned contacts - cold solder.

Thanks, the PDF is much more comprehensive than the manual I received with the unit, should help diagnose the issue hopefully. My 6 code shows to be a memory issue if I read it correctly. I will see what I can come up with and report back. Thanks for the info and if anyone else thinks of an idea feel free to chime in, I like all the info I can get.

Check the RAM chips against known good ones.  Also their sockets go bad and need to be replaced sometimes.
There is a sticky in the E-Series slot section on how to bypass the low voltage detect circuit by removing one resistor and putting in one jumper.

That’s very helpful. I was reading some other threads about a similar problem so I started removing the chips 1 by 1 with power off, then power back up. Each time code would be different until I got to this particular one. When I pulled it and powered up it had the same original ..0.0.0.6. Code. So I am assuming it’s not working correctly. I’m not in front of the machine now but it was the chip directly to the right of the battery. The top one. I ordered one on eBay so hopefully it will arrive soon. I will report back after chip arrives. Thanks again for all the info.

So the chip arrived and installed. Same 6 code as before. So after checking things out I was working with some wires on top left of the door and the hopper started trying to run. Spit some coins out then quit intermittently. Pulled the reels and the hopper, re-installed and started getting a 7000006 code. At times the 6 on the end would flicker. I noticed that the Blue solenoid next to the hopper plug is popping at times. I’m at a loss. Any ideas to check?

Replace the RAM chip sockets or send the board to my shop and I will get it going.
