1088 - need to install an on/off switch

My 1088 EM does not have an on/off switch.  I bought a electrical box with light switch and was going to mount to outside, but I think that will be pretty ugly.  Any better suggestions?  I was trying to avoid cutting a hole in the cabinet to do a flush mount.  Thanks

My EM has an inline rocker switch on the power cord.

I use a power strip that has individual lighted switches.
Have the machines plug in order.


Curious to know what year the 1088 is?
From the way the inside looks it appears to be 1979 early 1980.
The date is stamped across the top of the Bally ID tag.
Its very small and spaced out left middle and right.

1088 should be dated 1975 or later.

The first picture shows glass on lower front and the year 1982.  The metal plate on left of machine indicates 7 13 1976. (Thanks for pointing those out, I never would have seen those numbers).  So was the glass replaced later?

I believe your machine was originally a $1 machine. Is it still that? It's common for the glass to have been changed out as machines were re-themed, updated or sold.

It is a nickel machine.

Wolftalk could tell you better than I, but as far as I know. The 1088 was not delivered as a 5 cent machine. My thought is it was converted at some point.

i believe this machine came from the Nugget - i had a few of these years ago- the double towers look familiar.

I noticed this brass plate on floor of cabinet under hopper. does this mean anything?  There is another similar plate on the wheel mechanism, but different numbers.

That's a serial number plate from John Ascuaga's Nugget in Sparks Nevada (Reno). It doesn't say anything else except to confirm what GOS mentioned. There are usually 3 of those tags in the machine in numerical order. You'll usually find one on the hopper, the reel mech and one on the cabinet.

The three tags on mine are:
6856 - Cabinet
6857 - Hopper
7837 - Wheel Mechanism. 


As mentioned by slcjeeper, this machine was most likely not a nickel machine when first made, but it was converted sometime later.  Perhaps this is why the tags are not sequential.

I can't say much about coin denomination.  My incomplete list of models goes up to 1088-16 and are either $1 or 25 cent, but I have other par sheet docs that show a 1088-1 and 1088-1-50cent with a payout of 87.15%. 


the 1088 par sheet shows 4 versions with payouts all above 93%, so those are likely all $1 machines.  A version for the Nugget paid 96.39%


to change denomination without changing percentage, the coin mech, hopper pinwheel, glass and maybe the coin entry chute get changed.   I would guess many $1 machines got converted for retail sale so people didn't need tokens to play them.
