S+ Bottom Candle lit solid all of the time.
« on: July 09, 2021, 07:06:42 PM »
I have been working on building a Spin Till You Win game and am having some issues that I'm not seeing in the Diagnostic Cards.

A little history...

The game started as a Barcrest but I was unable to locate the missing pieces to complete it, so I went with a different kit.

I swapped the 16 megahertz MPU for a 10 and had the game playing fine, accepting bills and quarters, but the lower Candle light would not extinguish. Then I had problems with the display going blank during game play and not coming back on until I powered down and back up. And the first time I installed the Hopper, the 8amp fuse blew.

Tried a different display, same problem. No Insert Coin Light or Denom Light. Tried 2 additional MPUs, no change to the Candle or Display. Hopper didn't blow the fuse the third time and I never located a dead short.

Replaced Motherboard and noticed burnt traces on the old one. Probably most of my problems to begin with.

Now the game plays perfectly but the Candle is still lit all of the time. Never flashes with door open or during idle time with credits on the machine. Top portion of the Candle works as it should.

Is there a setting somewhere that I'm missing to control what this Candle does?

Other than that, all is well.

Thanks, Curtis ash100

Can you unplug the candle Molex connector up in the topbox and take a good photo of the pins and colored wires?

I need to see the other connector as well that's plugged into it and see if those wires are in the right holes.

I think one the pins is is the wrong hole powering up the lower lamp full-time.

If you post a photo correctly, compare your present candle with a known working candle or draw a picture of the candle wiring.

Mark,

Finally figured out after chasing wires for a couple of hours, it was the Candle itself.

Seems it's giving itself a ground path to stay illuminated all of the time.

Swapped in a spare candle and it's good to go.

Next I'll take apart the bad one and figure out where it's shorted.

Thanks,

Curtis ash100

yep....it didn't make sense why it was on all the time...

I figured that bottom lamp was getting continuous power.

Good job digging around :)
