Machines on Timers? Safe?
« on: February 11, 2015, 08:08:09 PM »
I have 2 Universal machines and a Bally Game Maker, I normally run them 24/7 but damn it with the power hike in my area it's adding up and hate to sell the machines.

I was thinking of running them on a timer, I found a 4 plug surge protector with built in timer for $20 some dollars that is listed as heavy duty...

Now my question is:

- Will this accelerate wear and tear on the internals of these older machines (especially the Universal where parts are hard to get)?
- Will this hurt the power supply in the machines?
- Starters and bulbs I know will hate cycling on and off but replacing starters and bulbs isn't hard or too expensive.

Basically....is this a bad idea? I would hate to open them every day/night to turn them on/off inside manually.

Want them to run from 9AM to midnight on the timer.

Thanks guys and gals!

I don't get to play in my casino every day.......
I have pinballs, slots, neon and I have everything on X10 (cheepo remote control). One button press and the world comes to life.
I have been running them this way for years without any adverse effects.

The only real problem I have is that my Mikon progressives loose their settings if they are off for more than 10 days.
They use a super capacitor vs a battery so there is no real way to manage this other than to leave them plugged in.
If you can't afford to lose you can't afford to win.

Why couldn't you replace the farad caps with rechargeable lithium batteries? That might give you long-term memory retention.
