Took a ride to the strip to take one last look at the Riv. In Vegas for 60 years! Las Vegas Convention Center bought the property and plan to expand after the Riviera goes down. The old gal needs to go as does Slots-a-Fun and Circus Circus too. The Riviera was never one of my favorites but seeing an old icon go is still sad.
Saw lots of S2000 Barcrests in there. Wonder where they will end up?

Of course I brought my brass polish and put a shine on those Crazy Girls.

No news of an auction yet. I will post it if it is scheduled to happen.
The Crazy Girls show is moving to The Planet Hollywood as is the brass statue in pic above.

I was surprised that all the gift shops were closed up. One would think there is a market for Riviera memorabilia at closing time?
I did see all in-casino progressives were set to minimum payout and nothing was incrementing. At 7pm Saturday they drew six names to share the $145,000 in "unclaimed" jackpots, which I assume were the in-house progressives. I had one entry in the drawing but didn't stick around. Hope my name wasn't drawn!

Last time I was in Vegas I went in there for a bit, the casino was pretty empty. Then went accross to the circus circus. There was a lot of activity as most of the families with kids spend the day there while the kids are upstairs or in the adventuredome. There always seems to be activity on the circus circus, and they even have a section with old machines that work off dollar tokens. A lot of people like to play those as it is always busy everytime I go through there. They are to the right as you come in from the main front doors. Some of them are UNIS.

I like to play blackjack..... but the Circus Circus has the most unfriendly player rules going.
I will probably wander through again and collect a $1 table token as I have recently started to collect these but otherwise I really could not be bothered.

They hit soft 17.
Aces split only once.
No double after split.
6:5 payouts

Fourteen Magnificent 7's to be exact. And they are still there!! The El Cortez has three Double Fourtunes and The D has one four reeler with progressive jackpot. Not that I'm counting.

No auction. Liquidation sale beginning May 14th, 9am-7pm and thereafter until everything sold. NO SLOTS INCLUDED.

Not sure what happens to the slots??

I'm fairly certain all of the slot stuff (well, maybe not stands) will be sold as they usually would. They can't bother dealing onesie-twosies at auction, as they can't bother with licenses, legality, etc. Most casinos do not have a NV gaming distributor license, only an operators license (meaning they cannot sell machines direct to ANYONE without going theough a distributor). A NV distributor license Is almost as rare as hens teeth, as it is very costly to obtain. Machines will be sold as a lot, with bid requests emailed to prospective buyers, just as they would do with lots of older, retired games.

I read the other day that the owner of the D and Las Vegas Club had mentioned that they were going to purchase some of the slot and relocate them to those casino's eventually.

ANOTHER UPDATE:

Crazy Girls

customs, lights, stage props, computers, etc. STOLEN when their rental truck was hot wired and stolen. Truck was recovered but their stuff is gone.

So, be on the lookout for their "PHALLIC COUCH" that was among the missing!! Yes, that's right, a couch shaped liked a man's genitallia is on the loose somewhere in Vegas or maybe heading out of state! A must have for any household I expect the thieves will find a black market for their prize!

Only in Vegas people!!!

On another note, I may take a ride next Saturday and see what the Riv has left. Often times misc. toppers and slot glass is left behind. A few years back when they brought down The El Rancho my brother-in-law was in charge of the demo. My wife was in Vegas at the time(I wasn't

) and he took her threw it days before the implosion. She saw stacks of Bally EM glass and brought a reel glass home for me that made a nice picture frame. There was also piles of stainless bowls, resturant items like salt & pepper, sugar jars, etc. Coin counting machines too.

Usually the prices they have at these sales are a bit steep. I remember the Sahara wanting $50 a piece for cig burned slot chairs. But they had some glass too. Fun to look.

I went to the stardust auction and things like bedsheets and drapes were selling for more than what new would have gone for. I am sure everything was laundered but the eww factor of buying used hotel sheets was not cool.

My wife volunteers for the Las Vegas NSPCA dog shelter. She walks dogs and takes them to adoption events. She also tries to get donation blankets from hotels to be used by the shelter in dog kennels, especially in the winter. That's about all I would use a hotel sheet for!
Our local motel has made donations in the past! Very nice.

Speaking of hotel laundry, here's a good story! The contracts for cleaning hotel blankets and sheets are really sought after. The cleaning company who wins gets hit with dye bombs sewn into, say, a towel and when it's washed in bulk, an entire load is destroyed! Laundry Service sabotage!!
