Game King 19" CRT monitor suddenly very blue - help?

Hi all.

After a number of hours of on time, my 19" CRT monitor on my Game King became very, very blue.  The entire image had a strong blue hue to it.  I tried power cycling it, but the result was the same.

I turned the machine off, and a couple of weeks later went to use it and while the image looked blue at first, once it warmed up (30 seconds or so), it was back to normal.  However, after about 30 minutes of playing it, like a switch was flipped, it became blue again very suddenly.  I tried the technician's trick of banging on the screen a few times, but no change.  Any thoughts as to what's causing this, and how to fix it?

I would suspect a carbon short on the blue gun in the neck of the crt. With the tube warm, whether it's acting up or not, remove it from the machine, set it face down on the floor and tap on the neck of the tube with the handle of a screw driver. I've used this method to jar carbon flakes loose before and they fall into the larger area inside the tube away from the guns. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but if it's a carbon short and you don't have a crt analyzer/restorer it's kind of the cavemans repair method.
Could be solder connection or component related issue also, but a carbon short would be my first guess. And just for info sakes, crt necks are pretty sturdy, but be careful...

Ceronix monitors are known for this problem also, the problem usually lies in the neck board in the drivers and transistors for the blue color. For this problem I usually replace the following: 943 (2sc3467), 951 (2sa1370), 954 (2sa1370) and the PRA card for the blue. Works 99% of the time.

Thanks for the info, guys.  A friend of mine has a CRT "tube rejuvenatior" -- I'll start by bringing my monitor to him and have him give it the once-over to see if that resolves the issue before I go and replace parts.

I'd make you one heck of a deal on a 19" CRT with touch screen, and touch screen controller board, and the  repaired (with new caps) power supply from my Game King if you lived closer.. I converted mine to LCD last year.. Had a great picture when it was removed..

No, it hasn't been.  A friend of mine told me to bring the monitor in to his shop and he'd take a look at it -- it's just been really low on the priority list, so I haven't gone forward with any attempts to repair it yet.

I have a complete 19" CRT and Chassis out of my Game King Slant Top.. It works great, I just converted mine to an LCD last year.. Your welcome to it...

You're very kind, thank you.  I'll bring my monitor to my friend's place to see if he can figure out the issue, but if not I may just take you up on it -- at least the chassis.  Thanks!

I know the chassis in good condition.. It had caps replaced a few months before the switch over.. Hopefully it's not a color gun issue in your CRT..
