S+ Coin Payout question
« on: March 10, 2018, 05:40:50 PM »
Greetings all! First post!!!

Thought I'd share my ignorance right out of the gate! I have two S+ machines, which I recently got working correctly (battery issues, reset, 61-1  loop, Bill validator, etc... WHEW!)

My question is - Is it possible to use the bill validator to add credits, and still pay jackpots in quarters? Or is there any way to set the hopper limit to some number, and have wins go to credits up to that number, then to the hopper? I am just getting my feet wet using the service settings - they are a bit vague!

I have the max payout at 400 before a hand pay...

The S+ has no concept of coin values.
You will even see the glass say win 1199 coins.

When you use your SET chip to assign a denomination you are setting the bill validator to assign xx credits for a dollar. The S+ still has no idea what you paid for that credit.

Often you will see a home owner set their bill validator to 1c so you get 100 credits for $1.00
When you cash out you would get 100 quarters.

To answer your other question there is a hopper limit. You can set a max number and when you reach this amount the machine goes into hand-pay. Depending what game chip you have there may also be a max credit limit which does the same thing.

Hand pay is where the machine locks up and goes tick tick tick and you free the machine by using the jackpot reset key.... and the casino host walks over with the big check.

Welcome to NLG. Yes on many (most) Sp chips the credit limit will allow you to put in cash (as Jay said according to the denomination set) and add credits. Some chips have to be set or they have a credit/cash button which will let the B/V go to credits or coins in the tray. The Hopper limit is the number of coins that the hopper pays before a hand pay. The credit limit is the number of credits the machine will hold before a hand pay. I don't know of a chip that will let you win to the credit limit and then pay coins from the hopper, when it gets to that limit, it hand pays. Kind of one or the other.

The main circuit board inside your machine (called the "mpu" board) has 2 chips (eproms) installed into sockets. These chips control the operation of your game and also certain options/preference settings. The chips are called the "SP" and the "SS" chips, due to the way IGT names and numbers them.

If you follow these instructions (below) you can find out what the SP and SS chip numbers are inside the machine. If you can tell us those SP & SS chip numbers there is specific information about your machine that can be given to you.

Also, feel free to post photos of your machines, we love seeing them!

Thanks for the replies! This has to be one of the best forums I've seen - a WEALTH of knowledge, where it seems everyone is polite, friendly, and eager to help.

As far as the coin payout options - I forget sometimes that these machines weren't built to be home amusement devices! The options definitely make sense in a casino setting...

If I hit a hand pay, I sure hope the guy with the big check can find me!!

As far as the chips - my boards have SP731 chips. Not sure about the SS or reel chips - I will look afterwhile. I think my wife likes the nostalgic coin payout ability of the machine - If the bill validator will add credits versus dumping quarters, I may try setting it to pay via the hopper. I need to go get some more quarters though - I only have about 250 in each machine..

Glad it's working good for you. I'm going to add links for a couple of documents to help you find out the SP and SS chips without pulling the MPU. Also the PSR for the SP731, which will help you set the machine up.

5 Times Pay info, look for the SS6272 entry in the chart. This machine has a 95.1% player payback percentage. The "AAA" shown under the "Stops" heading indicates that all 3 reel strips are identical.

.......................................................................

Red, White & Blue info, look for the SS3279 entry in the chart. This machine as a 97.4% player payback percentage. The "ABC" shown under the "Stops" heading indicates that each reel strip is different, so they must be in the proper reel position. If you ever need to remove the reels be sure to put them back in the same order they are now.

I found them both - I do NOT want my wife knowing which is which - she has been tasked with finding her "favorite". :-)

ALSO - The 5X pay doesn't have the small LCD to the left of the players card swipe below the top glass. I'm assuming its a progressive display?

Although one machine is a couple of percentages higher than the other anything can happen, especially in the "short term", so don't be surprised if the 5 Times Pay "seems" to pay better. That's the nature of a slot machine. Also, when you look at the charts for your games you will see that there are higher percentage SS chips available if you want to bump up your machine's percentage.

If you post a photo of the machine we can say for sure. But any display on the panel for the player's card is probably not related to a progressive jackpot, it is for information related to the slot club, like "Hello Patsy, here's your slot club point level", etc.

No progressive. There was a display there that the casino used for messages.

Yes, your photo is viewable, nice looking pair of machines! That is the players card panel, it has/had an lcd display, a card reader where the player inserts the card and a control pad so the player can interact with their slot club account.

When a casino gets rid of a slot machine sometimes they will leave the players card equipment in the machine, sometimes it is removed to use on another machine. Or a previous owner may have removed it. For home use it is rarely activated. If you want you can get a "blank" panel to install so there won't be a hole there. Or you can get the lcd display and add it, but I don't think it will say anything unless you add extra equipment to the machine. You could probably add something behind the hole to block it off so the interior lighting from the machine doesn't show thru. A black piece of plastic or something similar could be attached to the rear of the panel to cover the hole. If you want to get a solid blank cover for it someone here on NLG could probably help with that.

Here's an example of a typical player card panel, yours may be different but it will give you a basic idea on them. In the photo below the decorative overlay has been removed. Circled in yellow is the lcd display.

rokgpsman,

That is what it is I am sure - I think it would look better with a blanking plate behind it - You can see into the cabinet, which is not as interesting as the outside for sure!

There's a few different ways to eliminate the hole. Until you figure out the best way you can put just about anything simple back there to block the light, such as dark-colored tape or a piece of black plastic taped to the back of the panel. Then check into your choices, like getting a "blank" solid panel to install across where the player panel is now. Or get the lcd display and install it, NLG folks probably have them.

On NLG you are allowed to post a message called a Want To Buy (WTB), you can do it right here in this discussion thread and someone will move it to the Classified Ads area if needed. Just say what you are looking for and someone with the part or advice related to it will respond.

You might need to post a well-lit, closeup photo of the player panel with the hole in it, plus the measurements for the whole panel (length and width).

I think I would prefer to block off the hole....you can see inside, which is not terribly exciting!

I like the setting of 5-1, which allows the player to select coins versus credits. I may set the hopper limit lower....say 200 or so, to limit having to multi-refill the hopper for large jackpots (as I said, right now, its at 400). I like having it not too high, as pushing 3-500 coins out of the hopper might be kind of a pain! Fun watching smaller wins pay though!

An off the wall question...Neither of the machines have the jackpot bell installed...is it 24VAC, or 6.3VAC like the lamps?

On the home page on the right side about the middle, there are lots of things about S+ machines, under Rick's FAQ's.
