Do I need a specific clear & set chop after I replace the battery?

No clear chip needed. In the PE poker forum I believe there is battery change instructions. You may need a set chip to set the denomination and enable the BV.

Here is some info from knagl - You must press AND HOLD the button for approximately five seconds -- if you're just pressing and releasing it, that won't do it. Press and hold the button for at least five seconds. You should hear a tone if the speaker is working. Next, close the door (ensure that the "DOOR OPEN" message disappears, otherwise the machine isn't sensing that the door is closed and you won't be able to proceed), then turn the jackpot reset keyswitch on the side of the machine once, and release.

You may need to repeat the process one more time if you encounter an additional error (ie. open the door and press and hold the test button again, then close the door, then turn the jackpot reset keyswitch again).

Thank you for all that info, this is my first PE machine. Is there a certain set chip I need for a PE machine? All I have is chips for S Plus. S2000 and IGame machines

I think a Set 12 is the same between a S+ and a PE+
Not sure about the others.

On the S+ the set90 is a relatively new chip.
They added a lot of options for multilevel progressives and support for the internal (behind the pay glass) progressives that did not exist when the Set 15 came out.

Given that the PE+ has no behind the pay glass progressives I would lean to the set 15 at least as a first shot.
On the flip side the guys that designed these things were pretty smart and could have built pe+ support in the set90 also.

Changed the battery and the game is working now but I'm not getting any sound, I've turned the pot on too of the board both ways and checked to make sure both speaker wires were attached to the speaker. Is there a setting I need to get into to adjust the volume perhaps?

Did the set chip work for the DBV ?

If you press the white button you will go through a series of screens - there might be some options in there for various sounds.
There should also be a test screen.

Just make sure you have 0 credits on the machine.

I ended up not needing a set chip since this machine is coins only at .25
I did press the white button on the MPU & stepped through the various screens, the only one I remember seeing was where you change the sounds from tones to music, I set it to music. Still not getting any sounds though

With the MPU out try turning the wheel back and forth a bit.

The reason I suggest taking the MPU tray out is that I was trying to adjust the volume on one of mine and I only thought I was moving the wheel and it was pretty much stuck.

Since only part of the wheel protrudes though the edge of the tray its nice to be able to grip on both sides and make sure you are moving it.
These are also a simple potentiometer so if the contact is dirty its not going to work. Might be as simple as turning it back and forth a few times to clear it.

Just took the MPU out and turned the pot back & forth a few times, put the MPU back in & still no sound

Did that when I took the board out, could it actually be the speaker? I'm not even hearing a low buzz or hum sound from it

You could always connect up to another speaker and try it.
I would follow the speaker wires back and do it closer to the source as it could easily be a broken wire as well.
Speakers typically don't go on these types of things. speakers blow when the coils get to hot. Not enough sound comes out long enough to do that.

It takes a lot to blow a speaker. When I was 16 I connected a 40w car (crap) speaker to a 100w amp and cranked it - it eventually blew but then one side of the amp went as well when something in the speaker shorted. I was replacing the speakers and figured no one would want them. I wasn't planning on replacing the amp. Thankfully it was only a fuse.

Oh I've never had a bad speaker on a slot, just threw it out there. I followed the 2 speaker wires back to,the connector next to the MPU and it looks just fine, no damage at all

I have had to change speakers on S+'s and S5500's due to age.

The speaker in the S+ and the PE+ is the same if you want to swap them.....

alternatively you could just run some jumper wires between the two machines vs unmounting the speaker.
