Noob Coin Comparator Question
« on: July 07, 2022, 12:33:25 PM »
Sorry for the Noob question here but I'm just learning about my new S+ machine

My machine is an 1998 S+ machine "Double Diamond"  $1 machine set up to run large coin tokens.

Machine runs pretty well with some quirks that I'm looking for some help on.

First up my Coin Comparator works fine, rejects non-tokens and always takes a token.  But it seems to be snapped into the machine back side out.
(see picture)  Is this OK?  Normal?

Again it works perfectly, but why is it like this?  Is this how large coin comparitors work?

Should I put it in the right way, or leave it alone?  Oh and the bottom left clip is only half there.

My understanding is that is how the large token ones are installed. I think its based on where the wiring harness plugs in.
As you pointed out the comparator is just clipped in - as long as you don't break the clips you can pop it out and reverse it.
I think you will however find that with the wiring being on the other side it won't reach.

When you take the comparator out there is a sensitivity dial that you can adjust - albeit it doesn't sound like you need to, and you can change the sample token to any other dollar or token type you want as long as it has metallic properties so it can compare to what is being played. Your hopper is designed for a certain token size so you wouldn't want to go to a smaller coin unless you change out the hopper as well.

Most of the vendors on our home page can get you replacement clips for the comparator. Likely this doo-dad doesn't show up on their web list of things to buy but if you call them they will likely have it. Might help your conversation if you mention you found them on the NLG forum.

 Olds442,

Great screen name!  As for the coin comparator.  Yours is installed correctly.  If you were to turn it around.  It would not line up with your coin head.
