Slot Machine recommendation
« on: July 08, 2023, 10:03:36 AM »
Hey guys, I currently own a IGT G23 that's setup with a game chest that I'm wanting to change soon.  I'm also thinking that I want a BB2.  I think the BB2 will be easier to change the games since they are cartridge based.  I'm very new in the slot game but I'm determined to have a few machines that I can swap games on a regular basis.  I think I wanna start with the BB2 , so... I don't want to go buy a machine that needs numerous parts upgraded to play the better games.  Why not buy that machine from the start?  I'm here to get some recommendations on what to look for already installed on a BB2.  Like I said, I will be looking for the better games with better bonuses (for wife) and I have read that some things need upgrading before they might run smooth.  Or should I jump straight to a BB3?   I don't really care to pay hundreds of dollars for each game but bigger and better games would be nice. I thought about starting with the G23 but I want to leave it up and running until I learn a lot more about clearing and loading games on it.
Some of the things I would love advice on is Tito, which version of NXT? what button deck? I would love to have Star Trek 6, hand payout-I would love credits to build forever and no hand payouts, SSD?  Graphics card? memory cards?  any ekeys needed?  or anything else you think I should look for.
I also have not decided where I'm going to get machine from or games from , so if you have a recommendation for that too.
Thank you guys so much for having this forum to help rookies like me...

From my experience BB2 machines are some of the simplest you'll play around with, if you're used to the AVP platform then BB2 should be a cinch. Not that their similar just that the BB2 platform can be really simple. All you need is a clear card and those are dirt cheap compared to getting an ekey. If you do end up buying a BB2 I'd recommend a BB2E, which has the emotive lightning that allows you to upgrade to a BB3 later. The only reason you'd need a blade is if you simply like those cabinets more (they are nicer and have a bigger screen) or wanted to play around with Argos software but that stuffs expensive.

In terms of upgrades I'd make sure the bb2 board has an ssd and 4GB of ram. All you'll need is a clear card and to my knowledge there's only one video card available for these boards.

If your interested in messing around with your g23 you should research Family 20 software, harder to find but some of those titles have fun bonus like zillion gators or farmers daughter

I agree with Falsmouth that a BB2E would be a great choice. Easy to switch over and play BB3 games (most anyways). I am sure the BB2E would come with an OLED panel board. Star Trek episodes 1-4 or 1-6 will not play on an OLED panel. I wish it did. You can switch out these button panels but not sure about all versions.

I have an old BB1 to BB2 conversion. I can play BB1 games (with button panel change) I can play BB2 games and BB3 games on this old machine. If you purchased a BB2E the change from BB2E to BB3 games is fairly simple. Between the BB2 Games and BB3 games you will have plenty of games to toy with. There are Chest games also. I have a couple of them. One as 8 games the other as more like 14 (some are keno)

As far as IGT games man, there is so many games. On my G23 i have around 40 games (and could add more) on an Family 14 CPU. I have another CPU that as Family 20 games. I have around 16 games on that CPU. Pretty easy to switch out CPUs if you keep track of the 2 small eeproms on backplane. Today I had Family 20 games playing. Wanted to switch back to Family 14 games. Took about i5 minutes. Change out CPU and connections and the 2 small eeproms on backplane. I did not have to do any re-inableing of games or any of that stuff. I just fired up and played. Very nice. I just found out about the eeproms recently from member Tilt

I think if you were to buy an BB2E and an IGT AVP G23 you would be really set up very nicely with plenty of awesome games.

I think another CPU to change out is just what I need.. at least until I learn more about this.   I will look for another CPU and maybe some help with eeproms

It depends on the cabinet, the BB2E will allow you to just swap boards, only thing you'll need is to either buy a spare BB2 or BB3 CPU depending on the initial configuration. If you decide to go in this direction you may also need to find the additional power harness for the BB3 upgrade (plugs from the PSU to the board if I remember correctly). BB2 boards do not require or use this part. Best bet might be to buy one set up as a BB3 then buy a spare BB2 cpu. BB3 stuff tends to be more expensive than BB2 stuff though so this might be a pricier option. BB3 boards go for around 1k a piece while BB2 boards are usually around 250-400$.

Blades don't seem to work with BB2 CPUs because they use a different kind of touch screen. Think it has something to do with Blades being usb touch but I might be wrong on that part.
